The Truck is a 1996 F350 Powerstroke with 120k on the odometer.
I just recently put in a Beans 6 position tuner, and put about 600 miles on the truck with no issues.
Three days ago, I had the truck cut out on me while going down the freeway, i turned off the key and turned it back on, the truck started up instantly. The only DTC was P0603.
Two days ago, I had the truck cut out on me twice. This time I had to turn off the key and let the truck sit for a few minutes before it would fire. Once again the only trouble code was P0603.
Once I got the truck home i replaced the CPS, hoping that would solve the stalling issue.
Unfortunately it did not, while I was driving the truck yesterday it shut down on me again. This time the truck would not start at all, the CEL was on and the WTS light would not come on.
I had the truck towed to a nearby parking lot and then proceeded to remove the Beans 6 position chip.
Once the chip was out the truck fired up immediately. Unfortunately a new problem arisen. Under partial throttle the truck will drive around just fine, but at 50% throttle or more the truck develops a stumble above 1800 rpm. If you try and drive through the stumble it will cause the engine to cut out. The stumble also exists when the engine is revved in neutral. DTCs were P0603 and P0606.
Once I got the truck back home, I reinstalled the Beans chip to see what would happen. The truck fired up like it should and idled for an hour without any stalling issues. reinstalling the tuner also fixed the stumble I was experiencing under heavy throttle.
Just to be sure, I shut the truck off, disconnected both batteries, and removed the chip. After the chip was out, I restarted the truck, and with no chip in the truck the studdering issues returned under heavy throttle.
Does anybody know what would cause this studdering under heavy throttle? It must be something that the Chip bypasses but what? PCM, ICM, ECM? Bad Fuse? Bad Relay? At this point I am stumped. Any input, advice, or general direction would be greatly appreciated.
But on that note, I suspect its not the injector orings because when the chip is reinstalled the stumbling subsides.
So I supect your right about the chip being loose, but my new concern is why does it stumble without the chip in?
If the chip programming calls for more ICP(higher pressures) that may make worn injector o-rings more apparent and wear them more quickly, resulting in stumbles even with the chip removed.
The truck was still having the stumbling issue after about a hundred miles, it turns out that the new cps that I put in the truck was defective right out of the box. After changing it out again, this time with an oem sensor, the truck has been running smoothly.
