many of you may have seen my previous post on having trouble with my dp tuner.. it went from working fine to stalling the truck and not restarting with chip installed, pull the chip and it runs perfect. i decided to go ahead and ship the chip and pcm to dp tuner for inspection, i just got word that all is well with chip and pcm jody re-tinned the pcm, so i am waiting for it to return to try it out and see if it works, but when i talked to them i was told that if it doesn't work that i should start checking things like oil pressure and fuel pressure and some other odds and ends to see if there is something causing it not to function with the chip installed.. i'm posting to see if you guys have ever had or heard of this being a problem? i'm alittle confused as to why if the hpop or fuel pressure wasn't enough why it would prevent the truck from even starting? any ideas are going to help me greatly as i really want the chip to work in my truck! thanks guys
Thanks, it seems real wierd to me too.. I'm hoping when I get it back with fresh tinning and good connection to the chip there will be no problems!!just a little more info on the problem, before I sent it off to them when the chip was installed I had no wts light and the check engine light would stay on... remove it and starts up and runs great. I'll have it all back Tuesday, hopefully get it all thrown back in and tested and have to post up what happens, till then any ideas are greatly appreciated!!
You got me...I just keep thinking its something with the chip...I don't see how it can start fine without the chip, then not with the chip..
Edit: The only thing I can think of is you didn't clean the terminals enough... I would think DP would have noticed that though... Did they test it in a vehicle or what did they do exactly?
That is also the only thing I can think too.. but I went through a few times looking and feeling and inspecting for silicone.. spent too long was just about cross eyed.. but I feel I may have over cleaned there was more copper then I think there should have been. To the second part of that, when I sent it back I assumed they would hook it up to a rig or a computer system, but they are only set up for superdutys to do that kind of thing, so they just checked the pcm and chip seperatly they could not hook the chip to the pcm to see what happens, but both checked out ok, jody did re-tin the pcm and flashed it with a stock setting, so I know the pcm is fine.. I am hopefull it was just a bad connection something to do with my cleaning job, because if it doesn't work now I don't know what I'll do....??
The chip will demand more from the stock system. It could be a weak hpop or low fuel pressure. What setting are you trying to start it on. When you get the pcm and chip back install the pcm. Run to autozone and buy a oil psi gauge like 30 and sunpro brand. Hook it up on the oil cooler right above the oil filter. There is a plug in it.
Start it with no chip and watch the oil pressure and check the fuel pressure. Install the chip and repeat. See if you notice any change. If the LPOP is weak or going bad it may not be able to keep up with the HPOP. Remember the Oil PSI gauge in the cluster will move with around 6 to 8 psi.
I will give that a try, but I sent the chip back for inspection because the truck wouldn't even start with the chip in... in any mode.. I can see the stock system being weak if it ran with the chip but stuttered or something, but the fact it would not start in any setting and I had no wts light and a check engine leads me to belive it was chip related, like I said maybe I over cleaned? But I will be looking into checking those pressures regardless because I never have and I would like to know. I know I want 50psi at idle?for fuel but what I'm I looking for on the hpop.. thanks
Do you have the f5? If so and the switch itself goes bad then it defaults to the no start position (well whatever you have for position 0 which is usually the no start) if you have that setting
It is the f-5, but it is a week old, been ran in the truck 2 days, another wierd part to the story, when the truck stalled and wouldn't start with the chip in, I could go through all the settings on the switch take it in and out of no start.. it just wouldn't start, like I say no wts light, and all time check engine... thanks for all the responses!! Were bound to come across something...hopefully!
