How cold is cold ??

I have a F250 Diesel 6.0 that I bought about 2 1/2 yrs ago , it always seemed the A/C didn't blow cold as my last ford a gas F150 .. Well today I'm in my buddies truck a Toyota 4 door 2004 and he had a thermometer in the AC vent , well it read 40 degrees on the button on low and about 44 on high ... Well when we got back to my house we jumped in my truck and drove 6 miles (2 beers) and the best my truck did on low was 52 on low and bout 58 on high .... Is my F250 supposed to get colder than that .... He thinks so .....

probably low on refrigerant.
my 88 with R-12 would blow 34 out of the vents with an outside temp of 90 .
my 99 crown vic and 02 diesel pickup will get down to 38 unless it is over 90 outside, then it will be between 40-42.

With new A/C components and a fresh recharge I had 40* at the vents, Max A/C on, 90*+ day, 2000 E250 5.4 motor.

These days in my '03 E250 extended body with separation curtain I can still get 43* or so with original A/C system, topped off and reading correct pressures, normal A/C selected. Both systems with R134a

Your charge could be low but without reading the pressures its tough to tell if that's the only issue. Since you don't mention the year or mileage of your F250 this is just a guess.

you also need to make sure the condenser is clean. if it is dirty it will not get proper airflow across it, and will not properly exchange heat causing warmer AC temps.

Thanks , it's a 2007 with 122,000 miles,,,,
Those cans of freon at Autozone etc with the hose and gauge already attached is ok to use ? I guess I'll need to find out what the pressure should be and adjust it to that with the gauge on the can
Correct

no. the autozoo cans only tell you low pressure, and even then the gauges are not very accurate.
you need a manifold set that will measure both high and low pressure.

My wifes 2013 Edge gets to 39 degrees regardless of outside temp, it is bone chilling cold, so does my sons 2014 Explorer! My less than one year old 2013 Lariat F150 has issues. Ford has made some changes that don't work well.

See this thread and what I posted. I had an 2008 that I could get to 39 degrees vent temp.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1334515-2013-ford-f-150-a-c-does-not-leak-water.html

I am due back to the dealer Monday, if they cant get it fixed, its gonna get traded! Cant have 46-50 degree vent temp in Texas summers.

BTW, if I trade it wont be for a new one!

Correct
I would suggest first that you look for the label under the hood and see what you are suppose to have for a charge. My 2013 calls for 24 ounces or 1.5 lbs.

Then, I would have the system evacuated and vacuumed for at least 30 minutes. Then weigh in the correct amount of R134A.

That's how I got my 08 to 39.

I have taken my 08 and 13 by an independent shop and discussed with him, been in business over 30 years. He has no answer, just says regardless of what they do, the best always produces 42-50 degree vent air.

Another tech very familiar with Ford has suggested that the systems are undercharged even when the listed amount is charged. Tweaking can help. There is also a hack utilizing a Potentiometer on the sensor for the evaporator coil. Its on another F150 forum and not knowing whether a link to another forum can be posted, if you do a search for "compressor Cycling Fix" you should find it. If not PM me.
