Hey guys. I had my entire AC system replaced last year and changed over to 134A. I also replaced the radiator, fan shroud, flushed coolant, and tuned her up. It is my 90 f150 with 244,000 original miles still ticking away. The Ac still doesnt blow very cold though. If your haulin *** on the highway its OK, but ideling it sucks. I was wondering if the motor being worn out is causing this because sometimes the temp gauge climbs high enough to worry me a little if im in traffic sitting alot. I just want it to blow cold again. I put about 1500 bucks into just the AC replacing everything and I though that would do it. Any ideas, please let me know.
Firstly it is nothing to do with the motor. Was the A/C better just after you got it charged with 134a than it is now? It could be that the system has lost a little refridgerant over time. Some guys I know that switched from R12 to 134a have told me that their A/C is not as good. Are you comparing it with what it was like before?
Just my thoughts. You might want to post this on the A/C page to get the opinion of some of the experts. Hope this helps.
I am also of the opinion that R134 just doesnt get as cold as R12(freon) does. The R12 sys. in my 93 F250 SC can freeze you out of the cab on a summer day and have to turn it down to the lowest possible level. The "improved" R134 in my newer rigs at max settings merely feels like a cool breeze in comparison.

It hasnt lost any charge, its the same as when I first had it done. I put a gauge on it myself and the pressure was good. All the components under the hood get frosty though. I know thats not right. I also understand that 134 isnt as good as the old stuff, but my 04 grand am freezes you out idling in traffic on a hot texas day, so why doesnt my truck?
Sounds like you have a restriction somewhere in the system.
To get to the A/C section just scroll down on the main forum page until you get to "Cooling, Heating, Ventilation and A/C" (I think that is the full name). I`m sure you will get help there. Good luck.
I converted my own system on my '88 a few years back and it blows about 40 degrees with a full charge. The orifice tube is the only thing on the fords that I can think of that could cause a blockage. Then again, I'm not a a/c tech.
