I've just thrown regular bolts in place of the factory ones. I think 9/16 bolts will work

hmm dont think so..9/16 is .56 inches, which is 14.3 mm.
my vernier showed the ID of the bushing hole to be 12.2 mm

This would be good info to have. I am getting ready to do all my shocks and the bolts are all nasty and rusty. Time to replace them all while I am down there. I will take them off and take them to a HW store to compare and post the size. This would be for a 2000 F250SD 7.3PSD 4x2

I replaced mine with 1/2" bolts, but I replaced the shock bushings with 1/2" ID bushings at the same time. The new bolts fit the holes in the mounts perfectly, with no drilling or anything.

I just replaced my rear shocks and used M12-1.75X80 Class 8.8 Hex Cap Screws. They looked almost identical to the originals (also metric). I also used 12mm washers and nuts. Looks great and fits perfect.
Now for the front ones..ughhh
Hope this helps

Everything on these trucks is Metric. Works well for me since I have been working on my own Honda's for years. Most stuff I have done on my super duty is a 1.5 thread pitch.
