Well deserved Mark. Long overdue actually IMHO.
Anyone who could make an ABRAMS roll my hats off too.
Never saw much tank action in Nam but the few times I did they Saved our ***** big time
I was a transmission engineer on the Abrams. It uses an Allison, four speed forward, two speed reverse, with a lockup torque converter. The clutches were 24" diameter. The transmission weighed 4500 pounds dry and held 45 gallons, not quarts, of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
Congrats on the write-up Mark! and thanks for shepherding us along here on FTE. You are a huge asset and we are lucky you've taken an interest in hanging around here. I think it's interesting how many of us here have a millitary connection in one way or another.
Thanks Mark, the help you provide for all of us is priceless!
Oh, and I'm not a FB member so I couldn't comment/like the article but it was a great read and nice to learn about/put a face to you and you have had an interesting run to say the least! Good luck to you and yours in all your future endeavors!
Thanks for all your input(s) on this forum, Mark. It's reassuring to know there's a lot of tech expertise here to fall back on when we shade tree guys sit there scratching our heads.
