20 pounds of boost. I honestly think it was in the 120HP Smoke Show tune. I was driving in the 80HP Daily Driver yesterday and had to put the pedal to the floor to avoid an accident and it did not dump nearly as much as it did in that video. I apologize for putting the wrong information out. They are one apart from each other on my cal list for the pesky tailgaters in Norfolk like White Buffalo mentioned.

Wait a sec. Your 120 HP tune gives up 20 PSI boost? If the tuning dumped fuel late I guess that could make soot and not a lot of boost. Stock tuning/injectors with air mods and wastegate disable can pop 20-22 PSI boost. What does your 80HP tune do?

I have a dp tuner f6, and my 80hp tune with a tight wastegate, will run 27psi and creep to 32psi. I'm hoping to get my van turbo rebuilt and get a new hpop and try out my 120tune...

Anyway
20psi is low. Check to make sure your boost gauge is on the correct side of the overboost regulator. Maybe you're only reading what the map sensor is getting. Or you're wastegate is leaking by or clamps aren't tight on the ic couplers or they leak.

Maybe that is what is suppose to do, I really don't know. This is the first vehicle with an automatic transmission I have owned. Trying to make the trans last until I can get some time over seas, so I'm able to get to Arkansas and see Brian.

That is the tuner that is programming the trans to hold that downshift like that. At first I liked it. But in the daily drive mode it eventually got annoying because its really uncanny how often i would find myself driving at the mph needed to downshift/upshift. For towing it was nice. But after my visit to Brian back in June he did not recommend this feature for the trans. And with his new trans in the truck and not a 294k mile tranny, things were just too tight and the shifts too hard/stiff for my liking. I sent my chip back to DP to have that feature removed.

ill agree that only 20psi is low. By reading your signature its looks like we have a similar setup, with my stock sticks w/ 299k on the clock and with my tuner in stock mode i can hit 22psi with the ww2. In either of my 80hp daily driver or the 120hp tunes i can peg my gauge at 30 psi in a heartbeat. Even if the TM wastegate control makes the difference, i could still hit 25-27 psi with the factory turbo. I think youve got something amiss...

I must have a boost leak somewhere (haven't made the leak detector yet). It could explain why it is dumping like that, simply not enough air due to the boost not being where she is suppose to be. I will make a video this weekend displaying the boost gauge in the 80HP daily driver just for your opinions.

I really do not like the downshift feature. I am concerned it will kill my transmission faster than my heavy foot. Will be in contact with PHP to find a resolution or may try getting a custom tune from Gearhead or TW.

Thanks guys, there will be more to follow for boost numbers this weekend.

That downshift might be useful in sparing your breaks in a tow tune, but that can wear down your transmission hardware and waste fuel. I've seen tunes that engage the coast clutch (neutral when you let up on throttle) as fast as 40 MPH.

As for your boost...

Stock injectors, stock turbo, 80 hp tune, air mods:

Tugly- I would much prefer to have the "coast" kick in when I let off the throttle. I'll talk to some tuners and see what can be done.

I appreciate the video. I feel like my boost does not push to that 27-30 pound range that yours was at. I'll drive the truck when I get home from work this afternoon and give an update.

I prefer to have the TC stay locked once I am moving.

Some tuners unlock the TC when you touch the brakes, I hate that... Nothing worse then using compression to slow yourself and then you touch the brakes to just slow a little more and the truck lurches ahead because the TC unlocks...

I love the downshifting, Everyone has there own thing.

I agree with you in regards to the TC locking. My thing is that I feel I am wearing the clutches down a little faster with the constant down shifting in stop and go traffic.... I'll keep my overdrive off until I know I will be cruising until I have to stop again. However, the down shift from second to third just seems a little rough. Literally feels like a manual transmission when you pop the clutch into a downshift. It is still the stock trans and need her to last a little while. Easier said then done knowing the power I have now.

I spoke with PHP this morning and I may consider getting just one custom tune for the time being to try and resolve this issue. Also tempted to get a BTS or John Woods valve body and try one of the tunes meant for a modified valve body to see if there is a difference.

I may have just found your problem. Cancelling the OD is really "Tow Mode", and it makes the transmission help with decel all the time. Don't cancel OD and see how that treats you.

Thanks Tugly. I had no idea that turning the overdrive off changed the "parameters" of the trans. Well here is a video of the boost. It is not a completely wide open run. I would say the between 3/4 and WOT.... A little to slick this morning in VA and lost a bit of the rear end even on this run. I apologize for the shakiness. Appears to have gotten up to 25psi. Still feel like I may have a boost leak somewhere. Ill get around to getting the detector made and seeing what I can find.

Without WOT, it's hard to judge where you're at with boost - but that looked like you could top 27 PSI.

Yea she seems to be where she should be. I will try to get a WOT run in this afternoon as the rain has subsided. Would still like to get a leak detector put together. Also need some plenum inserts and some of RRDP CAC Boots. Still running the factory ones.
