Ken I received the x2 but havent installed it yet. It came in after I left to go to work. It is killing me knowing that it is at the house waiting on me.
I have been depating on getting a tuner and now the dp is selling them i am highly considering getting one from him. I had one for my 7.3 from him and i loved it. Also loved the tech service he provided. Couple questions Ken he only provides 3 tunes i would have to imagine that is all we need but is it? Also on the race tune does it blow black smoke out the exhaust??
I was wondering how long it would take for you 6.0 guys to realize what we 7.3 guys already know. Jody is a master tuner, after a few more parts on my truck, I will have Jody live tune mine. If he can make our 7.3 engines run the way they do, I think you guys are going to be amazed by his tunes.

I'm sure he can provide more, I only asked for 3 since I'm pretty much concerned primarily with mileage, and have no intention of making my 6.0 a fast truck (my Roush is my play toy).
Ken, after reading the article about the tuner, I have one question about the downshifting. Why do you want the tranny to downshift when on the hills? Now I can understand that you would if you were lugging it up a hill, but I'm almost almost between 1750-2000 rpms on hills and when my truck does downshift I was always upset that I didn't have enough torque to pull the hill and that the torque converter wasn't sufficiently locked up. I'm just curious because I always thought that a diesel should be able to hold a gear going up a hill. Thanks for any insight on this subject.
I guess I need to clarify why I'm bringing this subject of torque converter lock up. I'm interesting in buying an SCT because of the potential to firm up the shifts and lock up other gears besides OD. I'm currently running a Quadzilla XZT and I've been very impressed with the power and mileage increases, but it doesn't do anything for the tranny and that's why I want to make the jump to an SCT. But once again, the reason for the SCT is to firm up shifts and keep the torque converter locked up on the hills. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me clarify. The tranny isn't shifting up all hills. On steep hills, where you expect it to shift, it does. I'm not talking about Interstate grades of a max of 5-6% (and that's considered steep on most Interstate roads). I'm talking about the back-roads here where they get much steeper, and you're not doing 70, but rather 45. The engine isn't pulling much RPMs, and with the stock tune you end up giving it more and more throttle, until wham it shifts with a high spread in RPMs... and the resulting "bump" right after shifting because you're giving it so much throttle.
Jody's tune, however, on steep inclines at these lower speed feels "intuitive". 5th gear isn't going cut it at the RPM and grade, it shifts when should, rather than after you give it a ton of throttle so you end up giving an "expected" amount of throttle up the incline. Keep in mind, also, that this is a mileage tune talked about in the article. Naturally, if it were a power tune I'd expect it to not need to shift on this same hill.
In a nutshell, in conditions where any tune would down-shift, Jody's does it intuitively and proactively. Its not like its constantly down-shifting on every hill... nothing could be further from the truth.
I've postponed buying a tuner for a myriad of reasons but everyone speaks highly of DP.
Is anyone here already running his tunes? Are they much safer that the competitor tunes? I'm not looking for a race truck just something to increase MPG whether or not I'm towing, turn off the EGR and eliminate some of the lag.
PLEASE DO NOT START A WAR BETWEEN TUNERS HERE. THIS IS A SIMPLE YES OR NO ANSWER.
i had and a couple of buddies of mine on their 7.3L had DP and it was in our opinion the best. I really cannot coment his 6.0L tunes i dont have or dont know anyone who does but would like to know b/c i am in the market for a tuner and dont know who to get it from for the tunes. But i would take a chance and go with DP b/c he is well known with the 7.3L

FTE Ken, thanks for the info. That's kind of what I was hoping for especially since I live out in the west were we have lots of big summits. As long as it doesn't pre-emptively shift, I'm okay with that. Thanks for the article and update.
Great article. Jody's reputation is well known by 7.3L owners and he does the 6.0L also. Most vendors supply you with 3 choices, additional custom tunes are extra.
I am new to this but not new to ford diesels since I am on my 3rd one. I currently have a Flashpaq tuner but have not installed it yet on my new truck. I want to let it break in first. I know that when I put it in my 04 it was amazing how much it changed the truck. Then I started having problems and needless to say 5 turbo's later I am the proud owner of an 07. The tech at the ford dealer knew I had a tuner in my 04 because even after I installed the stock program and took it in to be worked on he could tell by their computer that it had a tuner in it, almost voided my warranty. They said after the 5th turbo they were not going to replace any more. Keep in mind that the truck only had 28k on it and was in the shop 27 times. The dealership that I bought it from made me an offer I could not refuse so it is gone and I couldn't be happier now that I got an 07. I guess what I really want to ask is does the DP tuner do the same, leave some code the dealer can find and tell you had a tuner in the truck?
