SCT installation trouble...

<TABLE class=tborder id=post1560599 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD class=alt2 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff 0px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff 1px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ffffff 0px solid" width=175>I had posted this Question over at ford-trucks.com, But having limited success with it. Just thought Some peeps hear could help me out.

To the right and below in this post is the conversation I have had so far.

You could skip to the last post I had if as I have got the tuner to work now but with error mess. during installation and I wanted to know if that is, well, a problem and how can I fix it?

Also its not powerful enough, at least like everyone is saying they are. But I bought it for the custom tune ability... um um

Any how, any help hear would be GREAT!

Thanks again from everyone so far,

<HR style="COLOR: #ffffff" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I just received my Sct X3 tuner...

I was soo excited to install it and see what it can do because of all the grewat stuff I have heard about it...

But I seem to be having a little trouble with it.

I plug it in the oboII port on the truck and it lites up and brings me to the Main menu... then I select Program vehical... brings me to Install Tune.. so I select that.

Next screen is Pre-programed or Custom. I select Pre-programed because I don't have the head studs installed yet so the truck will blow is gasket (the guy I bought it from had them installed and ran tht progam... Said it was nuts and would strecth em') Anyhow I can't use the program because I have a diff. Strategy code I think. So I click pre-program and it takes through the process....

Now heres where I have trouble understanding everything.... I have a few tune options..
Street
Proformance
Tow 50hp
Tow 65hp
Tow 75Hp I think

I when I click over to the right I can change some things with each tune... Easy I get that part..

But once I actually go through the entire process and all the %'s go through...I start the engine.. ( the tuner sets back to main menu by the way, Is that right?) it feels basically the same as stock tune.. I think it actually is stock and I just "want" it to be not stock lol because I should deff. be able to tell a HUGH diff. Am I right...

My Bully Dog System in extream mode puts it to shame.. and this should not be based on what I hear..

N e how... can anyone help me out?
Do I need to log on to SCTFLASH.com and grab the software, drivers firmware etc and update the tuner maybe?

Fw: 1.1.109
TuneRev: 1.0.5
It has 3 unlocks left and (had 4 but i think I used one when I tried to install it)

Thanks for any help,
Alex

From Dfuser:

Since you had a Bullydog before on your truck, the SCT in pre-programmed will not flash your PCM. YOu can howevere do the follwing:

Have your PCM flashed by FORd to claean all the garbage left by other programmers you have used in the past, or get custom tunes to override it.

BTW: Custom tunes will not do damage if done right. Not sure who you talked to about that.

Feel free to contact me directly and I can elaborate more.

Even when I return the vehical back to "stock" and eliminate the Bully dog (so they say)?

Thanks,
Alex.....

P.s. I'll prob be giving you a call soon lol thanks agian

Ok, So I went to SCTflash.com and downloaded the Updateing program 1.49 (most recent).
Successfully updated the Firmwire and am now doing the new tune revisions.

Hopefully this will work. This is similar to what had to be done to the Bully Dog system when I first installed it. I had to update everything for some reason.. don't know why or really get it since theres no way for it to connect to an outside service to tell it to stop working or whatever.. lol but well see I'll keep you posted and let you know if I blow my truck up pretty soon..

Alex

Ok so updateing it worked out.... its on street tune right now.... But it doesnt seem too crazy like everyone is say they are... must. When I had the Bully dog tuner on there set to extreme it would blow smoke and was a little faster but shifts were not all that (would get stuck in 3rd unless I rode it all the way out to like 80 MPH, If I let off the gas it would stay in the gear and when I slowed and hit the gas again it would rev high because it was stuck... did'nt get it and Bully dog blamed my tranny.. regardless in stock its absolutly fine.. it's deff the tune). Street tune on the SCT is supposed to be the "badest a$$" one for the pre-programed tunes am I right?

Just wonderin.... But I bought it for the ability to custom tune it and make it sweet.. so well see.

Also when I intalled the tune "street" on the truck from the SCT X3 tuner an error message came up... something about not being able to open a file during the download process.. Anyhow the truck runs fine, but should I re-update it? or return it to stock and re-install it?

Thanks for all the help so far.
Alex

I have seen on here in the past where there is trouble after running bully dog products. You may have to get it reflashed like mentioned above.

Yes, you have to remove all previous programs, Bully dog does not 100% uninstall when you return to stock. You can call SCT and have them send you a stock file to restore that will remove the junk.
