The problem will gets worse to a no-start condition when hot.
You may have to wait up to 45 minutes for the oil to cool down enough to get enough pressure for starting.
This happened several times to us in the Phoenix area. I took it to the Bell Ford dealership where they fixed it to the tune of $1900.00
And yes, they installed the upgrade kit. No problems since then.
I fixed this in my neighbours garage and it cost me less than 100 dollars for the standpipes and dummy plugs. That being said I spent a day taking parts off and getting it back together. If you have the time this forum can guide you through the repair.
My 2005 has started doing this as well. It is hit or miss whether my dealer will know anything about it. Does anybody have the part number for the upgrade kit ?
It's been over a month, I have installed 2 new Interstate MTPs over a thousand miles no problems. Went to the store in Sunriver yesterday, in store for 10 mins. came out and no start....took 1 hour for oil to cool enough for it to start. Runs perfect for now, But for how long? I ordered the STC fttg.kit from MKM customs. Watched u-tube videos several times. I have decided to tackle this project myself in my shop. It is brutal not knowing if it is going to start,or lay down on the side of the road.Thank for all the replys, I'll keep you all updated on my project.

You've made the right decision. I did this repair in my drive-way 2 years ago and haven't had a problem since. It might be time to look into a Ficm repair by Ed while your working on it.

This might be a good time to replace any hoses while you've got it apart.
When I had the dealer do mine they found a heater hose that was showing hairline cracks.
Any special torx tips needed in removal of the oil pump? I have the angle gear drive and extra long combo wrenches. 1 3/8 end wrench for removal of ICR 1" deep socket for removal of old STC fttg. Expecting parts in on Wednesday, ready to get this done!
Turned in to a nightmare, got it all done, Started it up noticed a exhaust leak at the turbo. Expansion joint cracked at y-pipe. I had enough of working on this truck brought it to Performance Authority in Bend,Or. They found a leaking EGR cooler. I opted for the EGR delete oil cooler updated and the y-pipe, also a tuner. $2700 later all is good. Sold the truck. Going to order a new 2015. I'm going to pay for the extended warranty for sure. Lesson learned. Thanks for all the expert help and advice,
Scotty
