Is this possible ???

So for the past few days I have been installing bellowed up-pipes . I had the turbo off and the pedestal off to do the install . I had a very small oil leak at the back of the motor that would run down and drip out the torque converter inspection plate . I figured when i replaced the o-rings under the pedestal and the o-rings under the turbo , the leak would stop .

Now I have it all put back together but still have an oil leak except now it is a bigger leak .

Is it possible that once the o-rings go through a heat cycle , that the o-rings would expand and stop leaking ????

I'm asking because when I took my truck out for a test drive , it was leaking pretty bad but when I got back home and shut it down and took off the CAC pipes to get a better look , I fired the truck back up and it didn't seem to leak hardly any more . Even when reving the engine at 2000 rpm for 30 seconds .

Anybody else had the same situation happen with their truck when replacing the o-rings with the turbo or pedestal ??

Any thoughts or suggestions ?? Thank-you .

I had a pretty decent leak from my pedestal o rings. Enough to leave a couple lakes of oil in the valley. Got some new ones from dieselorings.com.

Fixed the leak right up for about three weeks. Now I have a slow drop... few drops worth over night, but no lake in the valley.

Sort of annoying. I am positive I seated the o rings correctly, so I am wondering if the leak is coming from somewhere else.

I know for damn sure a few drops of oil isn't worth the misery of pulling the turbo again.

I had my HPX start leaking, I guess I leaned on it. Once tighten back up the leak stopped.

I had the same annoying leak as you 90pioneer . I figured it would stop when I put new o-rings in from Bob @ Dieselorings too . I'm going to drive to work today and see what happens . I'm figuring that I'm going to have to get the turbo back out and check to see where the leak is and that that I haven't dis-figured the new rings . What a pain in the a$$ when having to put that marmon clamp back on the back of the turbo .

I was hoping it was as simple as seeing a leak at the HPX . So I checked to see if my HPX was causing the leak but after I wiped it down , I couldn't see any trace of oil at the HPX connectors .

What ft/lbs did you torque the pedestal to? I did mine two years ago and the Ford book says 18 ft/lbs...Bob at Diesel Orings says the Garrett manual (who makes the turbo and pedestal) says 34-36 ft/lbs. I torqued mine to 34.

Now I still had a small leak which I traced to saturated intake boots. Installed new boots and Riff Raffs inserts and I am dry as a bone for two years.

I know I torqued the turbo down to 36 ft/lbs . Crap , I don't remeber torqueing down the pedestal . I guess i had better figure out a way to get in there and check . I had already had the inserts installed in the plenums BUT I did install new boots and clamps from RiffRaff so I don't believe there to be any issue there .

My leak is definately with the turbo or the pedestal . There is no oil in the valley . Just running down the back of the motor .

i meant turbo to pedestal at 34-36......don't go higher than 18 on the pedestal to block. I was convinced mine was leaking but it was the intake boots all along.....

I second spongecop. When I put the WW2 in I did not torque the turbo back onto the pedestal enough and it caused a leak. I would try that before dismantling it all again....like you said the marmon clamp is a huge pain.

My HPx was running down the FPx that I put black electrical wrap on so I didn't see mine at first. It looked like the pedestal but it wasn't on mine. If torq'd they shouldn't leak. Check it and if not you mitt have to change the O-rings.

Marcel, How are you making out tracking down your leak?

Since you live so far north with cold winters I'm assuming you haven't deleted your EBPV. Could it be leaking from the actuator arm?

UPDATE :

I took my truck apart again to torque the pedestal down to 18ft/lbs . I swapped the o-rings that I got from Bob @ Diesel O-Rings ,from under the turbo with the ones from under the pedestal , hoping that it would stop leaking . Well it did slow down alot but still leaked .

I was frustrated and dissapointed with it still leaking . I decided to take it to Diesel Doctor here where I live so he could try his luck with it .

He replaced the o-rings with OEM o-rings . He said he used di-electric grease on the o-rings when re-assembling to keep the o-rings in place . He commented on the fact that it wasn't leaking to much and that I wanted it fixed as most guys will just live with the small leak . He put it back together and now it's not leaking . He charged me $380.00 cash out the door , $20.00 for o-rings and the rest for labour .

It turned out to be more expensive that I had hoped it would be but all in all , it was worth having the bellowed up-pipes in my truck .

Thank-you gentlemen for your thoughts and ideas .

After I did my Pedestal O rings, I thought it got worse. So I went to my local dealer and Rich gave me 2 bottles of dye to trace the leak. Then I shot degreaser in several areas and hosed that off.
Ever since, NO leaks. I think it may have been residual oil. Didn't take it back to Ford to analyze where the leak was.
It went away. Yay!!
