heater resistor

Hey
I went to Autozone and bought a heater resistor.
I open the box and it was a Motorcraft part inside!
My question is where is the wiring harness plug that provides the ground?
I have unable to find it.
Can I just run a separate ground wire?
Thank you

I don't know that the terminal in your picture is a ground. On my truck that terminal goes into the small wiring harness that leads to the low pressure switch on the A/C drier (it may be just sharing the harness or it could be related to A/C operation). Perhaps the terminal is unused if you don't have A/C.
I'll take a look in my wiring diagram (as soon as I get a chance) or maybe someone else will post back with more info.

It does not surprise me that you found a motorcraft part, in a duralast box. I've opened many duralast boxes, and found good brand name parts, up to and including motorcraft & mopar.
I needed a pigtail for a late model dodge. Autozone or the dealer were the only 2 options, and AZ was cheaper & had one in town. Opened the box (Duralast), and inside was a Mopar labeled bag, with a factory/dealer part inside.
Yes, AZ gets a bad rap for having some cheap parts, but they do have a lot more stuff available than most of the other chains. Some of this stuff they buy in bulk from the OEM suppliers.

I looked at the diagrams. Without A/C you only need the 3 wires. With A/C you use 4 wires and use the other terminal.

Sounds about right. Heater only = 3 speed blower with an "off" setting at the switch.
A/C = 4 speed blower, with no "off" setting on the blower switch. For all I know, the switch itself could be the same, just wired a bit different.......

That's what I was thinking looking at the diagrams, the fan never is truely off so the evaporator coil won't freeze up in defrost or A/C modes.
