well with the help of 81-F-150-Explorer and Mil1ion it was determined that i needed a different harness than the one I had already gotten. So i went to a junkyard today and found a harness that had guages so I would get the 18 pin instrument cluster plug and the correct alternator harness. But the problem, all the trucks there with decent wiring have the standard/basic heater and my truck has the deluxe hi-low heater w/out AC. If I get the harness they are only going to charge me $20 whereas others want atleast $100! SO, is it possible to use a standard heater wire harness in a deluxe heater truck what would it take to make it work.
I can't find it at the moment... I have 2 repair manuals, one of them has very complete sets of wiring schematics with ALL options listed. I think the basic wiring harnesses came prewired as a generic.
I'm pretty sure the "high-low" heater function is within the heater controls (cables & ducting) .... not the main harness therefore it should be the same.
The electrical parts should be the same as all the others
I'll check for you though if you tell me what year truck the harness is from.
I suspect a 79
The schematic doesn't show any switch hookup difference as far as wiring connection to switch.
Does the harness you found show something different ?
EDIT:
I checked 3 different sources and it appears there may be a slight difference but because in one diagram the electrical harness to the heater resistor disappears.
Did you get behind the heater switch & under the dash and count the connections ?
I only found one 4 wire connector to the switch, then from there the wires disappeared into the harness.
