Flakey EOT Sensor

Hi Guys,

I just got a call from the wife stating that the eot was 121 and ect was 193. She turned around and got back home and the scan guage was also going blank with key on. I had her unplug the sc2 and leave key off for a few and reconnect and temp is showing normal. I had replaced that sensor 2 years ago. Whats the expected life and normal ohms reading cold? Thanks. Will update when i look at it later.

Sounds more like an SG2 problem than a sensor problem. Mine will do that occasionally too. The two sensors are identical and can be interchanged. A good test would be if they read similar/identical temps after a 10 or 12 hour cold soak.

I have a similar problem, my EOT will hang around 170 to 180 and jumps around a bit while the ECT is steady 190. If I play with the wires, pinch them ect. then it's good for a few days. I think I bumped the sensor pigtail when I was removing the turbo last time. I have never had a problem with the SG2.
I found the pigtail at Rock Auto just need to get it and splice it in.

CPB1 has it. Same here. Wiggle the connector or better yet put a little dielectric grease on the sensor and then reinstall the pigtail.

I've had my SGII freeze or not show EOT on several occasions when volts and ECT were functioning just fine. The only thing that would "cure" it was to turn the truck off and let the SGII go to sleep then start and let it come on by itself. I'm not saying the sensor doesn't have a problem, I'm just saying it's not uncommon for the SGII to do that occasionally.

My experience is exactly the same.

swapped the sensors this am and got same ambient reading around 80. no chaffing, pigtail looks fine..thinking it had to have been the scanguage..no other explanation since the sensor and wiring are in great shape and reading correctly.
