Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like the biggest difference between my setup and yours is the tranny, Glenn. Do you think the cruise jerky-ness is coming from your trans shifting? And maybe the same with the smokey-ness. If the shift points were higher there'd be less smoke?
The cruise jerking is not from the trans. I'm talking about going 70mph and being jerked back and forth. Tony said in a email that he would cut the throttle response back and never did. I sent it in three times and it always came back the same. If he would have raised the shift points, that would have helped with the smoke but never did. From a dead stop I would 'ease' on the throttle as lightly as I could and a big cloud of smoke would come out.
Others have had good luck with Tony, I haven't and feel bad about what I say but its based on my experience with his tunes. Travis gets upset with me because Tony is his friend. Maybe I did something to **** Tony off ( I do have that ability to **** people off, LOL) so he doesn't do what I want or is just plain tired of me and my sending it in dozen times for reburns. IDK!!
Tony's tunes are great power, no argument there! But they are smokey to the point that you can't even take off at a stop without a cloud behind you. After paying $50 shipping it back and forth several times he would not back off on the throttle response so I could use the cruise. It was very jerky. I begged him to raise up the shift points and he refused. Its like he would get me chip in the mail, take it out of the box and put it in another and send it back to me.
Gearhead's tunes are weak, the tow tune is actually stock. I called him up and ask what the heck is going on, I pull 18.5K and can hardly get it going. His other ones like economy, street also were very weak. I use his extreme tune for towing but EGT's were really high. I told him that I didn't put thousands of $ under the hood to be detuned. If I want detuned, I will raise my right foot up!
In conclusion, I would use Tony's tunes if he would control the smoke, raise the shift points and cut back on the throttle response. Dyno Proven is a great compromise but I still need him to turn up the power some more. I'm working on that!
Dyno proven is the best that I use all the time now. His heavy tow tune has lots of power, the shift points are perfect and the cruise is smoooooth!
Hope this helps.
The sad part is your favorite I wouldnt use if they paid me. I would like tonys power but not into big smoke and yea if we wanted stock power why do any of this crap lol.
I may try yet another alternative. WE will see how that goes.

If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't use his chip either because of what he did to one of our own!! And what he did at RRE last year!! I understand how you feel Aaron! This is a another long story of why I even have their chip.
When Jonathan was with Beans, Beans and I got into an argument and me being always right about stuff (cough, cough), Bean finally admitted that I was wronged. He offered me a life time reburn chip, how could I say no? It just so happens that it turned out to be the best for my application. What can I say? Until another burner proves to be better, I'm going to use his chip. I'm not going to be driving down the road with an inferior chip just on the principle of the thing.
When the question of chips was brought up in this thread awhile back, I didn't say anything for this very reason. I just couldn't keep my big mouth shut and now we have what I thought would happen when I passed on posting.
All the information I gave out is true according to MY experiences!! Your results may vary!!
Well, I won't ask for details, but I really do appreciate all the opinions and experiences. for my part, it sounds like I'll be going with TW and just managing the smoke with my right and left feet. Or just running it in stock if I don't want to **** people off and/or need the power.
Seriously though - thanks for the discussion on this guys, it's been very helpful!
Boy oh boy. Does your head hurt JP. I hope you get what you want/need. I didn't realize that there was such mixed feelings towards a tuner here. Though I wasn't around for the issue. Sorry if I pressed to bring up a previous sore spot.

I would steer clear of TW chip. His customer service sucks. I wouldn't run his stuff If it was free

lol,see glenn..Its all just a matter of personal view.
I sure dont blame you for using his tunes.IF they work then run them!
Tuner discussion is like politics, religion and motor oil lol
I have a different alternative I will be trying and when its a good deal and work well then I will let some people in on it. I will not put anybody on it if I havent tried it and made sure all is good.
of course we havent even talked about d.p. tuner..gabe put some good numbers down with jodys tunes.
annndd GO!
Yep, Aaron is right again. If 10 people tried tunes from every tuner out there in their trucks, you would probably end up with 10 different opinions on each tuner. It's all about how each individual wants their truck to run, and personal experience with different tuners. Sadly, the only way to figure out which tunes and tuner are best suited for your needs is to spend the money and try different ones if the ones you have aren't doing it for you, not because one or two people say " Run so and so tunes! They are the best!"...or "Don't use their tunes, they suck!"
boy, i didnt realize this was such a touchy subject. at the risk of infuriating some folks here, it looks like i'm going with a TW chip. though i won't pull the trigger to make the purchase until i get the truck running and driving on a stock PCM first...
hopefully i'm starting her up this weekend, though. she'll be door, hood and bedless, but it'll be a big moment to hear her roar again - assuming all goes well.

Take it with a grain of salt. I heard all sorts of pros and cons for each tuner. People often get a bit heated over the subject. You will hear different from site to site and even within the sub boards of SD vs OBS :-)
I will say I went With DP and an F5... Worst decision was not to go with an F6. To be honest the tunes were canned tunes that are way off for my elevation. Truck smokes so bad that it honestly snuffs out the turbo from lighting, once it does, she is a rocket but by that time I'm out of gear and shift to the same issue repeating. Runs stupid hot too, with water and an IC I can hit 1400 in a matter of 5 seconds in the race tune, before the water and IC I could peg the pyro.
The tow tune is much more manageable but not when towing lol still runs **** hot!
After hooking up AE i saw the fuel pulse was near double of what others use.. Anywhere from 3-4.4 ms through the RPM range. I just think the chip was not burned correctly for the stage ones.
That all being said, I'm not bashing them by any means, like any motor, tuning will need to be refined over time, especially as mods are added.
I plan on re burning it when the truck is down and the 366 goes in and the trans is out. I drive it every day and just have been too darn busy to get it done. Since I bought the F5, it's been an excellent tailgater detterent and one expensive no start security device :-) the race tune will black out a city block.... And melt the motor, hence I have been using a stock tune for almost two years now.
I sure wish I could get live tuned! I will say I went with DP due to customer service, and Jody is a stand up guy. Hopefully I can switch out for an F6 :-) probably won't get that lucky!
Would live tuning be easier with the SD PCM swap? I was looking into it, seems straight forward with a manual trans. I think it would open up more chip options too.
