Well, I didn't get a call; does that mean you got it running? I ususally knock off around 10 or so because I get up early. Any time before that and you're golden.
just quick update here - i put the whole front end of the truck back together (minus the grill and such), finished up the modified coolant system for the IH pump, and started her up again. took a few seconds of cranking, but she fired up first time and i let her run for about 20 minutes, looking for puddles forming on the ground and in the valley. didnt spot anything much, so shut her down at that point. Oil temp was up to ~ 120 degrees, so not up to full temp, but getting there.
once she was shut down, i did notice that my turbo oil supply line was leaking at the brass double-flair fitting on top of the turbo. its much harder to see leaks of perfectly clean oil!
and of course with the body bolted down now, its damn near impossible to get any normal-looking wrench back there. luckily my wife was at the movies with my daugther, which is right next to the local harbor freight. i'm not a big fan of "pittsburgh" tools, but they were the only ones around, besides sears (which was in the opposite direction) to stock crows foot tubing wrenches.
haven't started it again since, but did get that fitting snugged up better.
oh, and it sounded great! idle was high and erratic to begin with but settled to ~625 and pretty steady after about 10 minutes. i even revved it a few times and it sounded even better!
there may be a few more things for this thread, but my main focus now is on the rest of the truck, so that thread will dominate now.
we got the brakes bled and e-brake hooked up. once i get the air filter mounted for real, i'll be able to drive it up and down the driveway at least :-)
Its good you were able to get at that fitting and tighten it. About a month ago I put my turbo back on and the oil return line fitting at the turbo was leaking. I had to take the turbo off to put a new gasket in there. What a PITA. Its great it sounds good!!
Question for you all. Where can I buy just the y-pipe for my Intercooler setup? ...like exactly the style of the one that Glenn has? ...basically a 3" welded wye with a tight 90 turn off the top and about a foot horizontal run.
I was going around tightening all my IC boots tonight and that cheap aluminum wye I bought gave way and crimped on one of the legs. Definitely not fixable and definitely not going to hold boost...
Any vendors/connections would be much appreciated!
