Trans leaking threw vent

Well Friday my 02 7.3 left me stranded and it was puking fluid out the vent I believe. Truck had a vibration at 45-55 mph then at 75 I heard a bang and I pulled over it was pukin ATF from the top of the trans and all over the transfer case so I thought it was transfer case. Fluid is poring from the top of trans now. Got it towed, I drained the fluid and it was clear. Can a 4r100 actually bang like that and leak? Need some input before I drop the trans

Sounds like something in the torque converter area, that's where the spinning mass is.

No leaks from front of trans what so ever took inspection cover off and it's dry. The shake was only in OD .... I'm starting to think its time for a BTS or John Woods.

what year, how many miles, recent service activity before mishap, etc

mentioned above its a 02 had 177k bought from original owner he had service done every 60k I did a filter and fluid 5k ago. Talked to a few shops and BTS they say broken OD drum causing it to vent. looks like new 4R100 for me!
