Trans help
I have an 82" 4sp man w/4th gear od. How do or where do I ID which tranny I have? Reason why im asking is that the guy that orgianlly had the truck, must've put auto trans fluid in it b/c im getting a leak now and its red. So any help on this would be great. It just doesn't make sense to me unless there's a reason why it would be? Its not coming form the transfer case b/c that is supposed to be red. Was there any year that or model that was required auto trans fluid instead of 80w?

I had a 88 F150 with a 5spd. trans. and it used auto. trans. fluid. I would write down the transmission code located on the Ford sticker in the drivers side door jam and call Ford they should be able to tell you what trans. you have and the type of fluid to use. There should also be a sticker or a label plate on the drivers side of the trans. that would let you know what type of trans. or if you can post the trans. code we can tell you what it is.
