I really dont get it. I am coming up a hill and the trans starts leaking...I pull over fluid is leaking out between the engine and trans. A LOT OF FLUID...I buy some fluid hoping to get home. pour it in and its leaking out underneath. trans is slipping so bad I get towed. today its cool morning...I add fluid just hoping to just get the truck to move a little so I can get it closer to the garage ...and to my surprise it runs fine and no fluid is leaking out!...I let it warm up to normal temperature and it still seems fine. I dont get it. Maybe the trans got really hot from freeway speeds? and leaks more when hot?...why would the torque converter seal leak so much when hot??..I bought a used trans yesterday out of desperation to get back to work. but it has the wrong tail piece so I was going to change the tail. I was figuring a day to pull the trans...a day to swap the tail and a day to put the trans back in the truck.. I would rather drive the truck to work without changing the transmission for 2 weeks so I can then get a rebuild kit and do it all properly. Who knows for sure the condition of the used trans I bought. it might not last long. I drive on back country roads to work at about 45 mph. when the trans screwed up I was going 60 and uphill a lot. so i have 2 questions why would the trans leak so much when hot and might it be ok to drive for a few weeks???..

Mine did that a few months back. Turned out a dirt dobber had built a nest on the vent. The vent is located on the passenger side of the trans, at about the 2 oclock position. There is a nipple sticking out with a little loose cap on it, kinda like a pressure cooker hisser. Hope this helps.
