Well, my aux fuel pump appears to have given up the ghost and decided to stop working. The current pump is a Holley blue electric 110 GPH pump. While the obvious answer would be to simply replace it, the good state of CA has made these illegal and I can no longer get one mailed to CA. Any ideas out there what may be a simple "plug-n-play" swap for this so I don't have to tear the whole set-up apart. Here is what it looks like:
I am going to try and tear the old pump apart again (from the bottom this time) and see if one of the vanes is sticking to the rotor but if that's not the issue, time for a new pump from a different manufacturer. The aux pump is mounted in the bed and is used to pump fuel from my aux tank and down into the main tank in place of a gravity feed system via a switch on my dash.
I've re-brushed a few of these pumps as they tend to get moisture in them. I love these pumps and think they are the best thing since sliced bread....and bacon.
Pull it apart and see what kind of condition the brushes and commutator are in.
Not exactly sure why it is illegal but they are no longer sold in the state and can't be shipped in. I took it apart from the top end and everything looked pretty good. Not sure I should have too much issues with moisture as it sits in a covered bed but who knows. Its not like it runs all the time and I would say that it may have a few hours of actual run time and I put it about 5 or 6 years ago. I saw a thread about taking them apart from the bottom and checking the vanes so that is my next step. Just flipped the switch the other day and nothing. Checked the fuse and its good, switch is fine so it leads me back to a pump issue.
That is one good thing about being in Truckee, 40 minutes to Summit. (Parts like this and all the paints and chemicals I could want just down the freeway) I can always pick up one for you and ship it, just let me know. They have it in stock in Sparks.
