Hello guys here iam again hehe ok last post we fixed the water pump and i got the lights all fixed now the fuel pump is doing weird things its electric sometimes it works fine and sometimes when i stpe on the gas it stops sending gas and truck turns off then i cant get the pump to came back on for a lil bit any ideas?
When it quits working is the pump still getting voltage? If not, start tracing wires to find out where the power stops. If it continues to baffle you, you can always go back to mechanical. The problem you are having is exactly why I got rid of an elec pump on my 460.
I don't know what your set up is but normally an electric fuel pump has some
'safety" circuitry that will kill it if there is no oil pressure. Some folks don't bother with this and just connect it directly to a 12v ign. source. You will have to trace it back and see how it was installed to be sure.
Unless of course you did it yourself, then at least you know who to blame if it's messed up!!
How far is the pump from the tank? Most electrics are not very good at drawing (I don't think I can say s*cking here?!?) the fuel. If the pump is too far from the tank or too high above the tank, you can put it into a tizzy if you put too much (or sometimes any, depending on the length/height) demand on the pump. Most pumps manufacturers recommend that they should be less than 2 feet from and below the tank. The below part is bogus as the thing would usually get wiped out by road debris (at least in my neighborhood.) I have solved a priming problem just by lowering the pump a few inches, though. Check it out.
well it was up front but i moved it to about 3 inches from the tank and below the tank but its still doing it one more question are your guys pumps loud like you can hear it priming the whole time your driving? also i think it is hooked up to a 12+V but i didnt install it its a summit brand pump
73 Ford F-100 I have to Run a Electric Fuel pump Beacuse i have a 5.0 that has the reverse flow timing cover with no port for Mechanical fuel pump im not to sure where its wired seems like it might be wired to the ignition box
i also wanted to add the pump was workin fine till i took it to get all the lighting fixed after that i noticed it was acting funny you think they screwed with the wirring for the pump and that can cause it too shut off when i step on it?
The wiring to the pump could be too light, but it sounds like the pump is having problems delivering. Do you know that it is shutting off or is it just not supplying enough? Could the supply line from the tank be restricted? After I checked that, I'd put a cheap pressure gauge on the fuel line and make sure the pump makes pressure. I know, that take bucks. You could also run some fuel into a bucket and pinch the line off to see if it will deliver and build pressure to rule out the pump by itself. This is DANGEROUS, though. Gas fumes and explosions have been seen together before. Be careful.
Mil1ion, by 12v power or ground out, do you mean internally grounded or externally grounded by a wire running out? I know a very few pumps are internally grounded. Those guys usually do not want any chances for arcing... All this stuff is DC, so one way in and one way out as far as the electrons go. Great Q on the type of pump, if it's an FI pump, with or without a return, I think there's big trouble. Also, nice call on the regulator. Oh, so much fun, elecrtic pumps. If there are ANY leaks (even tiny on the draw or pressure side), the thing will never quite clattering. To dynamically supply fuel they have to be very sensitive to pressure changes on the output, and the input will lose it's prime.
12v power or Ground-OUT actuation means which way turns the pump on ?
I like the ground out method that is run from the oil pressure line (Tee'd in with the oil pressure sending unit)
They ground out at 5 psi and turn on the pump and shut down the pump when the engine stops (instead of continuing pumping)
I installed an (EFI) 87 lincoln 302 in a 69 ranger it did very good and I did
installed a holley blue, and it worked great,I converted it to a carb. I mounted the pump about 10 inchs from back of cab, you will need a filter
before the pump, a holley blue has a small screen inside the bottom of the
pump, I had to take the plate off the bottom of pump and and clean it, and
I also discovered that I must have gotten a little amount of water in my fuel and one of
the vanes had rusted close so I removed it and cleaned it with steel wool.
You will need to run a regulator or it will flood and die.
P.S. if installed on a frame rail it keeps the pump quite, but when you first
prime the pump it will be loader than it will be after the presure builds! after
it runs a minute it will get quiter.

This is what i have: Summit Billet Fuel Pump and Regulator Kit
A good looking cure for fuel starvation.
These fuel pump and regulator kits feature a 140 gph fuel pump and a billet aluminum fuel pressure regulator. The regulator outlet pressure is adjustable from 5 to 12 psi, with a maximum inlet pressure of 14 psi. Also wha it does is after i floor the bad boy the pump shuts off and wont come back online for like 30 secs- 1min
