Oil Pressure Switch(s)??

Hello All,
So in my continuing quest to eliminate all of the excess wiring under the hood as well as remove ECM, I have stumbled across two separate oil pressure switches. The engine is a 351w in an 82 F-150. Pictured below, there is one that is at the end of the hexagonal shaft (circled in white) connected by a Red/White wire that, according to my wiring diagram, goes to the gauge panel. Then there is a second that is in the middle of the hexagonal shaft (circled in yellow) that connects to the "carburetor float solenoid" with a red and yellow wire. Because electrical isn't necessarily my forte, I wanted to make sure that removing that sensor would not affect anything since I am running an aftermarket carburetor.

Thank you in advance for you help.

-Aaron

You can remove the one in yellow and plug the hole. Or, you can remove the hex tee and screw the one in white in the hole, if it'll fit, although I don't think it will come to think of it. Either way, you don't need the yellow one.

Sweet thanks Gary, you da man! I figured it should be ok but better safe than sorry. Also, you are probably a good person to ask for this. I have a similar scenario on my intake manifold with my coolant temp switch. Can the one right above the thermostat be replaced with a nipple that just connects to the heater core without the wires or is that actually a switch that controls coolant flow as opposed to just the sensor? Because I also have a single wire connection on the right side that I believe goes to the gauges?

I think you can do what you are suggesting as that is just a sensor (not truly a switch but a variable resistor). However, could you post a pic of it?

That bad boy right there. Its all rusted and needs replaced and since I am rebelling against wires, why not?

Yes, you can do away with the sensor if there's another that goes to the gauge. Pull it out of the fitting and use a pipe plug to replace it. And I think you'll find those wires go right back to the computer - just make sure which sensor is which as you don't want to kill the gauge.

I remember the angst I had when removing all that stuff, which wasn't functional at all, so I'm glad to be able to help someone else. Have fun!

Yeah, I have owned the truck for 14 years and I have made more progress in the past two weeks than I ever have before thanks to the help of you and other members of the forum. I am having a blast making long awaited progress even with the stress of screwing something up with the electrical, but thats just part of the fun haha. Somewhat unrelated I just got caught up on the "Big Blackie build" and I am now subscribed to your "Dad's Truck" thread and looking forward to reading that thread. I have a lot of catching up to do as I am 370 some pages to go haha.

Luke's Big Blackie build is awesome! As for Dad's Truck Build, you haven't found all the ancillary threads? Like Dad's Air Cleaner, or Dad's Alternator, or Dad's Engine? It's a bit like the 60's British movies of Carry On: Nurse; Doctor; Camping, etc. it just never ends.
