The 351M and 400 are basically the same engine. The main differences have to deal with the stroke. The 351M has a 3.5" stroke while the 400 has a 4", therefore, the cranks are different. The 400 also has shorter pistons so that they do not crash into the head. Another small difference is the clutch. The 400 has a 12" while the 351M usually has an 11". The 351C is similar, but it has roughly a 1" shorter deck height. There is plenty of info on google....
It is easier and cheaper to change an "M" motor into a 429-460 than into a Cleveland. Read a bit about it, as suggested above. If your truck were a year older you'd have a much better motor in it direct from Ford, but that is only wishing...

Not sure what you mean by "change a M motor into a 429-460
The 429 and 460s are 385 series engines while the "M" motor is a 335 series. They are totally different engines.
i know about the 351m/400,will heads off a 351c bolt on a 351m 400? Im basically searching for parts or a complete 400 to rebuild while im driving my truck that has a 351m. I can find lots of 351c parts in my area plus 460 but nothing in a 400. THANKS guy's.
by 351C head, which do you mean; U.S. production 351C 2V, U.S. 4V open chamber, U.S. 4V closed chamber, or the Australian production 302C closed chamber head?
