Hi everyone, I'm just starting to look into buying a chip for my 2003 7.3L Diesel F350. I'm seeking words of advise on the best types and brands of chips out there! I'm looking the best for the money. not looking to spend $Ks
Chips really come down to personal preference I think. If you are going to put the money down for a chip though, I do think it is worth putting a little extra down for something like DP-Tuners F-6, or similar from another tuner.
Simply because you can get a trial tune* emailed to you, and if you like it, you can buy the tune and download it yourself with out removing the chip.
Otherwise you have to remove the chip, mail it in, buy the tune, wait for it to come back, re-install the chip, and hope you are happy with it.
*DP-Tuner will give you a trial tune. I don't know if other tuners do or not.
The dp f6 and the php hydra are the best chips I think because they're both now open source (use anybodys tunes) and you can get tunes via email.
I believe php has a library of basic tunes you get access to if you purchase their chip while with dp you have to pay somewhere around $30 each for tunes on top of the chip cost.
I have the dp f6 and am happy with it. I really liked how I could mount the switcher in my 650 dash from riffraff. Very clean look.
If the DP F6 chip is now open to all tuners, that's news to me. The last I checked, there were two tuners that could write on the chip - DP and Dyno Proven. The Hydra takes almost everybody else's tunes.

I"ve been very happy with my PHP Phoenix. I'm not looking to build a sled-puller or take down ricers between stoplights (but I'm definitely not last when everyone merges together on the freeway on-ramp).
I don't think they're the most aggressive tunes out there but they definitely wake the truck up. Two years running the tunes and haven't had a problem yet.
We were faced with a vital part on the old F6 being discontinued when we went to re-order more from the board house. Moates had to redesign for us so we went a different direction making it to be OPEN Source and Bluetooth capable.

The Hydra & Tony Wildman Tunes (Total Diesel Performance) gets my vote. Been running Tony's tunes for 10 years......during my upgrade on the Excursion last week he e-mailed me new tunes and took me only about 5 minutes to reload the chip.....awesome
