Normal start time for a 6.0? When to change glow plugs?
Seems like when I used to turn the key it would start within 1 second (or less after warmup). Pretty much like a regular gasser...
Lately it seems like about 1 1/2 to 2 seconds
What is normal for you guys?
I have 105,000 miles and always use a the Amsoil diesel fuel conditioner
Runs like a top but this later start thingie bugs me...
Thanks for the replies

Same here. Sometimes it fires like a gasser. Sometimes takes about 3-4 secs.
New batteries, different gas stations, outside air temperatures. Makes no difference.
I even tried to park truck up hill and down hill just for S&G's.
As long as it starts. I'm good. When it really dies. I wont miss it.

My crank time is inconsistent. Sometimes it seems to fire as soon as it cranks, other times a few seconds. Started it today after sitting more than 24hrs and glanced at ScanGauge, EOT and ECT were at 92°! Pretty warm here lately.
The glow plug system is pretty good at correctly throwing codes if there's an issue. I wouldn't worry about them until you get a Check Engine Light.

I too "was" frustrated with this just like a month ago, my Truck for the last 3 years has Always started immediately & all of the sudden it started taking like 2 seconds to start
I had actually taken a short Video & was going to post on here, but there's a new local shop I stumbled upon (powerstroke gearheads) & I stopped to talk to him & he told me that I have absolutely NO worries, a 2-3 second crank time is very normal. In fact he seemed stunned @ how fast it was starting & that was a long start to me. So I quit worrying about it........
Here's the Video I shot, cranking starts @ 9 second mark & appx 1.5 seconds long

Lol! Very true, I swear my truck has a personality. Sometimes it's ready to go immediately in the morning-sometimes it's got to get up 150° ECT before it pulls and shifts right. I've paid attention to where I bought fuel last, outside temps, oil changes, how quickly it starts, and lunar cycles. There's just no pattern to it I can see. when I turn the key I never know what I'm gonna get for first couple of miles. It always runs great after it gets a little heat in it though. I'm blaming mine on injectors/stiction...for now.
