Hello everyone, Im new to FTE, so bear with me. I have a 94 F150 XL/XLT 4x4 with 351 and E4OD auto tranny. It started shifting hard through the gears. But it only does it occasionally. No warning lights on. Help please.

Reason: misspelled word
The first thing to do is to check you transmission fluid levels. Your transmission is completely electronically controlled so the next step is to pull any codes your truck may have. From there some of the other more experienced people on here can help you to track down the reason for the codes.
I checked the fluid levels and they seem a little high. Will this cause this occasional hard shift? My check engine light does not come on. Will codes come up without the engine light on? I just purchased this truck 2 days ago, and already having issues.
Yes you can pull codes even if the Check Engine light is not on. If your transmission fluid is high you should remove some until it is in the normal range. I don't know about the E4OD but on one of my old C4 transmission I blew a seal because I had too much fluid in the transmission. I was too young to know any better and I don't remember how it was shifting. It's been a long time ago.

Yes improper fluid level can cause erratic transmission operation.
Yes you can have codes without a Check Engine Light on.
