Hi! I have a 97 F250, 4x4, 5.4 Triton with a bunch of mile on it. The problem I'm having is when first starting, the accelerator hangs up. Can't just push down slowly to start off - have to tap it to get it to free up. Problem doesn't seem to be with the pedal or cable - they move freely. Any ideas what to look at or try?
When it's likely to stick cold, remove the throttle cable from the throttle lever and check it out!.
If it is not free, use some throttle body spray cleaner and see what that does.
If it still sticks look closely a the throttle plate for going fully closed.
If this is the case it will be stuck fast in the throttle bore when the motor cools down. The plate is not supposed to go fully closed for two reasons.
The throttle stop may have been changed, the bushing worn or just plain gum accumulation.
Get in there and see what the issue is.
Good luck.
