2005 Excursion Sound Diagram

Hello Everyone!

I'm new to FTE.

I came looking for help in finding the wiring diagram for the stereo.
We want to install an OEM Stereo SoundStream VR764B.

We obtained two harnesses from two different car audio stores. One harness matches the existing Excursion plugs. The second harness matches up to the Sound Stream unit.

The instructions were vague on matching the unplugged ends of the harnesses.

Does anyone know where to find a schematic or wiring diagram so I can do it right?

Thanks in advance!

So you have the radio and the plugs to install it to the truck?
I thought they were all colored the same now so you can connect each end and plug and play after that or am I missing part of what your asking?

You're going to simply need to connect the wires to each other to create the harness. Generally it's all color coded similarly HOWEVER check whatever paperwork came with both items and make sure you are correctly matching each wire up.

Three Ways to Connect Your Receiver's Wiring Harness

Also, IMHO if you want the harness to last, don't use crimp caps or butt connectors unless you have to. I like to solder the wires together and use shrink tubing.

Once you've got the harness together you should be good to go other than connecting the antenna, running the bluetooth mic and any other accessories.

It's really easy, don't worry.

Nah, butt connectors are great! Just make sure and wrap them in packing tape afterwards to keep the moisture out Seriously though soldier those things, and either shrink wrap them or cover them in electrical tape. Personally I use the shrink tubing and love it.

Good Info

I appreciate the effort to respond and the information given.

The task is pretty simple - or so I thought. The two harnesses I purchased connect both sides of the rectangular connector for the OEM stereo. In the 2005 Excursion there is also another connector that is more square shaped.

I connected the wires of the rectangular connector (OEM) from diagrams that came with the purchased harness and the diagram label on the new stereo

Result - no life detected.

My thought is that there are still other unaddressed wires from the 2nd square connector (OEM) that have no harness and are unconnected.

That is why I was asking for the wiring diagram.

I suppose what I need is another two harnesses to connect the wires of the square connector to the other port on the stereo unit.

Has anybody else seen what i am describing? That there are two connectors in the back of the OEM stereo?

Do you have the DVD rear entertainment system?

You may need a 'dvd keeper' for it (search PIE FRD03 and PIE FRD04)

The problem with wiring harnesses is that OEMS and Stereo manufacturers are all different. That said I have never received a harness from a stereo company (installed Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC, Alpine and Clarion decks) that didn't have a guide for each wire on the harness

Please let me clarify.

The two harnesses purchased have diagrams. These harnesses connect in the following order:

2005 Ford Excursion OEM "rectangular" connector > harness 1 > harness 2 > Sound Stream VR764B stereo unit.

Everything seems simple with that connection, HOWEVER, there is a 2nd connector that I will name the 2005 Ford Excursion OEM "square" connector.

I do not know what those wires do, and I do not have a harness to connect them to a smaller rectangular outlet on the back of the Sound Stream stereo unit.

Does anyone have the wiring schematic/diagram for that second OEM harness that plugged into the "square" outlet on the back of the OEM stereo?

After looking for a solution for a week, my son took the Excursion and the stereo to a mobile audio shop.

The deck wouldn't have fit in the dash correctly. The shop gave my son credit for the deck and sold him one that would work. After all the hassle, we paid $80 for professional installation.

While we take pride D.I.Y., we were frustrated by this "mission impossible" and were pleased to put it behind us.

I really appreciate the follow up and the suggestions along the way!

If it was a true double din radio you wanted to install none of them fit without cutting
Glad it got fixed up for you
