Broken Exhaust Question

Hey guys. I need a little advice on how to proceed. I have a 1990 F250 4x4 Non-Turbo. It presently has a stock exhaust. The issue that I have is where both sides of the manifold come together. I'm calling it the Y-pipe, but I'm not sure if that is the correct term for that location. The pipe from the passenger side has completely broken away from the Y-pipe.
I called the local exhaust shop and they want like $65 just to weld it back into place. That seems a little high to me, so I'm considering other options (preferably DIY options that don't require welding).
I want to upgrade the exhaust a little, but I don't want it to be crazy loud. I don't think I want to straight pipe it, but I may consider duals or a free'er flowing muffler.
What's everyone's thoughts?

$65 isn't a bad price if the existing system is in good enough shape to repair. My 93 F350 had a cobbled on pair of stacks that would not fit in my garage and just had to go appearance wise. Local shop welded to still solid front pipes to a pair of glass packs and then turn downs right in front of the rear axle. Simple system was still slightly over $200 out the door.

our 88 is NA and setup about like 3ford. 2.25 duals before the rear tires with glasspacks. Sounds good, not very loud and really seems to make a difference

The solution is... Since your exhaust is shot anyway, find yourself a turbo kit! Then, you won't need the old pipes anymore, + more HP!

Seriously, though, either find a welder friend or have them do it... $65 isn't much, at least not compared to getting yourself a welder.

I got the hole y pipe for $75 and it just bolted in, even had the flange to connect to the rest of the exhaust.

If you want a cheap easy solution just buy a new pipe, unless you want to go bigger.
