2002 Expedition Electrical Problems
Im having some pretty severe electrical problems with my truck....02 Expedition
First thing to go was the front and rear cig lighters. I was using the front one to run a little tire compressor and just as I was about to shut it down, it blew them both. Had it checked at the shop and they said there's nothing wrong w the lighters themselves but I was on my way out of the shop and didnt have time for them to explore further.
Either at the same time or shortly after the seat controls stopped functioning.
The battery/alternator are giving me trouble. The alternator is charging the battery, and the battery is charging 75% of the time, but the rest of the time its just barely under charged and either has to be jumped or sit on a charger for a while. It usually jumps very quickly, but it's a major pain to have to mess with this a couple times a week.
I live in Sacramento, and when its 100 degrees out, the running of the a/c runs the battery right out.
The fuse box occasionally does this clicking thing, which never seems to lead to any problem in particular, but since these are all electrical problems, I assume they're related. Yesterday I needed jumped and it started clicking again so I tried to figure out where it was coming from. The first two relays were hot, but I couldn't tell which it was as I could feel them both clicking.
When I took the truck in with the cig lighter problem I had them check the fuses and all were fine, but it seems like this is a relay related problem. Any other ideas on what it could be? Are the relays easily replaced?
All help and suggestions are greatly appreciated! !
Thank you......
Emily
Once the power supply issue is resolved, the rest can be looked at. Unstable or low battery voltage can cause numerous issues with the microprocessor-controlled stuff.
Check for parasitic power draw.
Check the fuses for the lighter/power points. See owner's manual.
