Finally getting studded.

Well guys the time finally arrived. I started hearing my degas cap blowing off pressure so o took it in to get studded and head gaskets replaced. I'm also replacing the oil cooler and egr cooler while their in there.

Here is my dilemma though. They had my heads magnafluxed and apparently both my heads are cracked. I went in and looked at them and there were about 5-6 arrows pointing at cracks that I couldn't see. A lot of them were between valves and not between the injector port and glow plug hole. I paid $2200 for new heads so I just want to know if I needed to spend the money on the new heads or if those hairline cracks wouldn't have done anything bad.

Sorry you had to have the work done. I am not sure if its worth worrying about the need if you have already bought the heads. I do know that there will always be hairline cracks, but it is impossible to answer your questions on this side of the screen!

I just didn't know how many people knew there were hairline cracks and still put them on without any problems or vice versa. I would have liked to ave done the work myself but I don't have anywhere to do that kind of job. All I can do with where I live now is maintenance stuff and jobs that aren't very intensive.

Just depends on where the cracks are located. I wouldn't throw them in the trash.

Somewhere on the forum is PDF of a tech bulletin describing what cracks are allowable and what is not.

The machine shop put arrows where the cracks were and most of them were between the valves.
