I have a 2000 F-350 and the headlights have dulled and yellowed. I am thinking of replacing them. Has anyone done this? How hard is it to do? Are there any replacement ones that may not discolor like the originals? Thanks for any help.
You can replace them with the newer 02-04 lights that look better and will give you a little more light. They are a direct swap. Or you can swap in the 05-07 one piece headlights you can use the regular or the black Harley lights. You have to trim the header panel behind the lights with a dremel not a big deal takes like 30 min to do both sides. Neither of the options I gave you discolor like the older lights and are both easy to do.
You can try the lens polishing kits at the auto parts stores. I did it to get me through until I can afford new housings and it worked surprisingly well. Only took an hour to do both headlights, signals, and tail lights.
I recently hear this on the internet ( this forum so it give it more validity than elsewhere). A lot of guys are having success cleaning up their headlights with bug repellant. The more DEET the better. Spray it on, let it soak for a few seconds and just wipe it off.
I would have written it off but a couple of guys (skeptics) in the thread tried it and proclaimed success.
Worth a try.
I personally have the 07 lights on my 2000, much better/usable light output.
You can do this yourself. 2 clips at top of lens. 1 rubber push cap thing at the bottom outside thats the booger.
I couldnt get mine off so far. Someone suggested 14mm deep well socket forced over it while pulling lens.
1Aauto has a video on youtube also.
Remove clips first then the bottom outside fastener. Grab a bright flashlight and look between battery and lens. You will see the bottom one near fender inner wall. Clips are between core support and lens..
I had to gently pry each side of clip back and forth while pulling up gently at the same time. Watchout they can go flying. LOL
