Catastrophic Damage

Here is a 6.0 that my brother got his hands on Friday for some extra parts. Turns out he didn't get to use an many as he was hoping... Makes for some good discussion tho...

It appears to have been an International rebuild at some point. I have no ideal what they were thinking machining the crank lobes like that??

Not a very good rebuilt, you think they would of used all new hardware. Looks like that bolt stretched on time to many.

She is thinking cat-as·tro·phe NOT catastrophe or ca·tas·tro·phe

That point is where a bolt will tend to break if it does.
The transition to the head is called the fillet. If the fillet
was done right it would be less likely to snap there.
Fastener Failure
But even if it was you can expect to see a % of failures.

EDIT : Here is a good thing to read is you want to learn some of the why's

I have a computer Cat-Scan going on all the time and sometimes it's a double Cat-scan or a triple.
