I have a rebuilt 7.3 with stage 1's d66 and adrenaline. My question is I have an old out of the box hypertec chip that was in my truck before the engine rebuild, can I put it back in the truck with out hurting anything? Currently I don't have the money to get a custom tuner for the truck and am running with no chip or tuner. I would like the power from the chip but don't want to hurt anything. I do have gauges now which I didn't have before the engine rebuild. I ran the truck for a day with it and it had much better throttle response and about ten lbs of boost more but I pulled it that day because I was worried I would hurt something.
I wouldn't say no... I'd say hell no. Your truck is already jacked up because of going from splits to singles, and you don't know what a generic chip (programmed to jack up split-shots) will do to your timing and fueling. This could seriously break something expensive. You'll have to live with a crappy idle and touchy throttle until you can afford a PCM burn or a chip.
Okay well thanks for the input. That's why I wanted to check with you guys before it hurt something. Truck ran good with iron for the day but I was still nervous so I pulled it but it did smoke like a freight train.
