I have a rebuilt 7.3 with stage 1's d66 and adrenaline. My question is I have an old out of the box hypertec chip that was in my truck before the engine rebuild, can I put it back in the truck with out hurting anything? Currently I don't have the money to get a custom tuner for the truck and am running with no chip or tuner. I would like the power from the chip but don't want to hurt anything. I do have gauges now which I didn't have before the engine rebuild. I ran the truck for a day with it and it had much better throttle response and about ten lbs of boost more but I pulled it that day because I was worried I would hurt something.
Anytime the programmer re programs the PCM you run the risk of messing up the factory software. As far as mechanically hurting anything, no you will be fine, especially if you keep an eye on EGT's and boost. Save your pennies, get a custom tuned TS chip and bring those new sticks to life.
It's a programmer sorry for the confusion. It's a old programmer that was on the truck before the engine rebuild. I know I need custom tunes but can't swing it right now so I was thinking of using this until I could get a custom tuner.
