I know this will get a ton of opinions posted but.... I am looking at getting a tuner. I am set on either the TS performance chip or the DP-tuners. So let me know what you all think on which is better.
I haven't heard anything about the TS chip, but have heard TONS about DP... all of which is excellent beyond belief!! When I get my chip, there is NO doubt in my mind that it will be from Jody at DP!!
I'll tell you my story and you can decide for yourself.
A few weeks ago I went to the track and met up with some other buddies with PSD's. At that time my truck was having problems with a failing IPR, so it wasn't running as good as it should have. Another guy there had an '01 with similar mods to mine, upgraded turbo, intercooler, BTS transmission, etc. The difference was his truck was stock height, mine has a 6" lift and 36" tires, so weight and height advantage go to his truck. He's running a TS chip, I'm running DP-Tuner.
His best time of the night was 16.4 on the TS 125hp setting. My DP-Tuner 80 Econo setting bested him with a run of 16.2 that night. With my failing IPR, the 120 Race setting matched his best time of 16.4. Last year without the turbo upgrade, new transmission, fuel system, intercooler, etc, I ran a 16.1 on the exact same 120 Race setting. So even though there was obviously something very wrong with my truck, the DP-Tuner still pulled ahead of the TS chip. Oh and his best time on his Econo setting was a 16.6.
Now he's getting ready to purchase a DP-Tuner, and with me we'll both be doing live tuning when Jody comes to Colorado in August. Woot!
Well you got the most important mod out of the way. You need to start with an intake and exhaust. You have to let these engines breath to counter the hotter temps from the exhaust. After that, it just accourding to how much you want to spend. I would strongly suggest getting a valve body from BTS to match the Chip from Dp-tuner.
I like the Dp, check out my sig line, these mods were all from here( fte )an the power is awesome. Not a lot of money an no codes,an the truck is so much more fun to drive.
I had a TS 6 Pos chip before my current DP. It was a very good chip, ran well. The DP runs circles around it. Not much else I can say. Look at my sig for my mods. Stock diode tranny and all, no VB. I may be living on borrowed time but it sure is fun. 3 dyno pulls and 11 runs down the dragstrip and still holding up. That's right, bone stock tranny and turbo but my own DIY fuel system, 6637 intake and 5" Cannon exhaust. 311 and 640 on the rollers and 9.6 on the track in the 1/8th.
