I have sprung a small water leak from the water pump on my 226. I learned that Advance, AZ, Oriellys, and Macs do not have a replacement pump. Is there a rebuild kit or otherwise replacement pump available?
For any that have been through replacing the pump, do the bolts thread into the water jacket, or should I expect any unforeseen obstacles with removing the old pump?
I sent my 226 water pump to, Egge Machine. They rebuilt it at a reasonable cost and in a timely manner.

May I ask what you paid for the rebuilds?
I have an old pump that I picked from my original seized 226 engine, and was planning on keeping it as a back-up. But it will need a rebuild in order for me to have confidence in it as a replacement. How much can I expect to pay? (not including shipping)
Thanks,
You can PM me if you want or reply here.
Thanks,

Good information here! I guess I'll give Rockauto, Kanter, and Egge a call this week. It would be nice to find a kit- I would like to try to rebuild it myself, but things that have to seal under a little pressure and heat might be better left to the experts!
COLLECTORS AUTO SUPPLY in Oroville WA supposedly has 2 = 800-414-4462.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7HA-8591 .. Waterpump Repair Kit / Obsolete
NOS PARTS LTD in Waxahachie TX has 1 = 972-937-2201.
Thanks Bill -
I called NOS part in Texas - they are sold out.
I also called Collectors in WA. and they are sold out but offer a rebuild service. Cost is $220 plus a $50 core charge.
This is good to know in case anyone needs to re-hab a 226 water pump.
In the last six months I have had two 226 water pumps rebuilt. The first one I had done by Cardone in Texas via Rockauto. Turn around time was a little over two weeks and cost was about $100 which included return shipping. I had to pay to ship the pump to the Texas facility which cost an additional $20 since they ask you to only use Fedex or UPS and not the post office. The second pump was much faster and easier as well as cheaper. A local fella did my other pump. His family for the last 2 generations owned a rebuilding service (which eventually went bust due to chinese imports of pumps) still rebuilds pumps for old vehicles which are no longer available. I made an appointment with him and since I drove 30 miles one way to his place he rebuilt the pump for me while I waited (and watched!). It took him about 45 minutes or so to complete the rebuild (including paint primer) and only cost me $70. He accepts pumps shipped in from all over the US and told me he rebuilds pumps for many other companies who claim to offer the service. The guys name is Dan Bailey. I asked him if I could share his contact info on the internet and he said it was fine.

Give him a call!
That's great information. I'm saving this one for future reference.
Thanks for all the information on this topic guys! It looks like we have several options. I was surprised to learn the auto parts shops didn't have this one, since most of them list it online. I guess a water pump for the 226 is not as common as I though, except here on this forum.
