I just starting having this problem with the gauges on my F250 1971. The fuel, temp and oil gauge don't seem to be working. I noticed that as I start the truck, the fuel gauge woul move to the right, almost half way ( with a full tank) and then slowly returns all the way to the left ( showing empty). Also, the other gauges, oil and temp don't mark anything. All the gauges were working just fine a couple days ago. I am not sure where to start troubleshooting since all of the three gauges decided to start acting up at the same time.
Any recommendations would be highly appreciated!
Most likely little the gauge voltage regulator on the back side of the dash about 1.5"x 3/4" metal box. A common problem with these classic.
You have to get the correct one as theirs a few different one's so you'll need the one for the flexible printed circuit board.. about $15-45 bucks pull the dash look at it should be a #on it.. Check ebay also find the best priced one.

I have a problem with my fuel gauge dropping to the left too. Every time I stomp on the go pedal the gauge moves left way too fast.
Darn big feet and heavy shoes.

Aw yes a real problem with having a lot of horse power and a young mine..
It seems the only real cure is by the loco Police Dept. with applying large heavy fines & a lost of drivers Lic. this seems to cool them..

Well...as much as I would like to claim being young...sadly I'm not.
Never lost my license when I was a young and stupid but sure did pay a lot of fines.
By the way, I believe NAPA carries the IPVR as well. Seems like I found one at NAPA while working on my gauge issues.
Might consider replacing the bulbs while you are in there and I cleaned up the contact points on the panel as well.
At my NAPA they had the bulbs with carriers that fit much more snuggly than my 43+ year old ones did.

Aw yes clean the contact point areas as needed.
A pencil eraser works good at cleaning up any oxidized copper on those hard places to get to..
