The new-to-me "safety" feature of the windows going back down is driving me nuts! Nearly every time I raise either of the front windows to fully closed it reaches the top and goes back down as if there were something blocking its travel. But there isn't. So I have to resort to raising it by bumping up in small increments to get it all the way shut. What a complete PITA!

Does anyone know of a way to cancel this feature or at least de-sensitize it?

It is but the I have no confidence whatever in the service dept's I've visited. In fact, I won't even take advantage of the free oil change given when the truck was purchased. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and take the chance they won't screw up anything else.

 

They may have a bulletin out on it. From what you describe I bet other people have had this problem too.

 

Try De-initializing and Re-iniatializing one touch feature. De-initialize, key on, operate one touch button, disconnect battery power while window is moving. Re-initialize, key on, activate and hold up button (second detent) until glass stalls and hold for additional two seconds. Activate and hold down button (second detent) till glass stalls in down position and hold for additional two seconds. This should reset the one touch to new load settings. If you do not Re-initialize you will loose the one-touch feature. Hope this helps.

 

It didn't . The windows still go up with the one-touch feature then go back down by themselves as if an obstruction has been sensed. What a POS control system. I like the one-touch, IMHO it's about time it's on this vehicle, but I really don't like using it over and over and over to get the windows shut.



So before I go thru the trouble of resetting 42 radio stations and synch preferences & phone preferences I have to decide which is the lesser of two inconveniences: having one-touch but disabling it or fighting the windows all the time. I think the former but only if the window will stay up if the finger-operated switch is activated. Anyone know if there's a way to keep the down one-touch and disable just the up?

Again, what a POS system! When will auto manufacturers give us choices instead of shoving this all-or-nothing crap down our throats? H3ll, even Microsoft allows for some personalization....

EDIT: So, I've had a few minutes to get over myself, take a breff and chill . Here's what I've learned from going back and seeing what I can figure out:

- the disabling of the one-touch feature affects only the up direction. The down works with one touch always.

- disabling the up one-touch disables the safety feature to go down automatically as if an obstruction is sensed.

- none of the radio settings, preferences, etc. are reset when the battery cable is removed. This may be a short term thing, I don't know. But in just the 30 seconds or so I had the cable removed no info or setting was lost.

So I guess I got the best of what I can get: no up obstruction sensing and still have one touch down. It would be nice if there were a way to adjust the setting of obstruction sensing or disable it altogether, not all of us have kids' hands to worry about, so we can keep our one-touch-up, too.

I hope this info will help someone else along the way. So please pardon the rant, it's just the frustration of arrogant mfrs thinking they know what I want. I'm not stupid, I can decide what's best for me.

I've revisited this several times as there is a short paragraph on pg 99 of my owners manual about "Overriding the Bounce-Back Feature" that neither makes sense nor works. At the dealership service dept we had a gaggle of service people at my vehicle trying to figure it out with no luck. The service mgr said he was going to see what he could find out from "the technical people" but it's been a few weeks and I've not heard back from him , as usual, so I given up on him. Again. As usual.

So I've settled to having the one-touch feature for the down only and the pull-and-hold for the up with no bounce-back safety feature.

It is what it is I guess but disappointing none the less .

 

Ya know... rolling the window up or down with a crank wasn't the end of the world looking back at it. Jeez Louise.

 

No doubt! My Dad never had electric windows on a vehicle but he always had automatic ones. It was usually, "hey boy! Roll that window down" or "hey boy! Swing that wing window all the way 'round, let's have some a/c".

 

So much for that idea! The windows have reset themselves to what I assume is the factory default:

- one touch down works,

- one touch up has magically started working again on its own, and

- the bounce-back feature has also magically reappeared.


So once again I can't use the one touch up to fully close the windows. Truly disappointing! I'm right back to where I started with this annoying feature. I sure hope Ford rethinks this- for me it's a deal breaker. I've been driving a Ford since 1983 but I'll not buy another Ford that has this, it's that much a giant PITA. Why can't it be permanently disabled? Why can't the bounce-back setpoints be reset so it doesn't happen? WTH are they thinking? I'm going to visit the Chevy dealer in the morning. This sux.
