Odor when starting
Rookie member here, this is my first thread. Just purchased a 1996 F-250 with a 460 and 69,000 miles!! Loving the truck so far!
One of the things I have noticed is when I start it, I get an odor coming from the vents within several seconds. It only lasts a couple of seconds. I can't quite figure its exact smell but its a combo of exhaust or it almost reminds me of the burnt alcohol smell at the race track. It only appears briefly when starting.
The truck is in great shape, runs, idles great and has been adult owned prior to me. It has been sitting for the last 2 yrs however. I changed the crankcase filter inside the air filter housing but the odor remains. Could it be the heater core? I don't see any obvious issues with the exhaust piping. I am not the most mechanically inclined guy out there so any input would be appreciated!!
Thanks everyone
Could be simple as EGR tube leaking from exhaust manifold.
Even though exhaust looks like it's in great shape, doesn't mean it couldn't have a leak near catalytic converter.
Just a couple of ideas..
