Exhaust in cab strong smell..until I hit the recirculate.

Moving from Texas and better emission testing..I thought the smell was from other vehicles. Living in Spokane, Wa. now..But not so.....I was sitting in a field yesterday and today idling and omg..the smell is strong..almost sickening. Not a diesel exhaust smell, which I kinda enjoy, btw....but like a regular gas exhaust smell.

I saw a thread on this about a year ago and thought it was crazy.....maybe it's the elevation or something has gone wrong.....any ideas?

Try searching exhaust on the search engine....lol

54,000 miles and this started about a month ago.

Thanks,

Shane

There have been folks with missing or loose exhaust fittings on the top of the motor between the turbo and the egr. I've read about it too but I'm sure it would be hard to find.

Get a wrench in there and see what you can access. Remove the intake tube and the plastic thing above the turbo, I think that should be pretty easy as long as you're careful with the sensor plugs and such.

Why the move to the northwest Shane? Looks like you still need to change your location, it still says "Arlington TEXAS".

About a year ago there were some people reporting an exhaust smell during regen. It was caused by a tube that was on the exhaust side. It was high up near the cab. People were talking about how far up a reach it was to get a wrench on. Could this be your problem?

This was the thread I was thinking about:

There is also another thread on what ruschejj mentioned.

I had the same issue with my truck. Took it in and they fixed the problem. My work order refers to TSB 11-6-22 and 11-12-3. They corrected it following procedure in TSB 11-6-22. Replaced EP tube and applied anti seize to ferrule and replaced all gaskets. This corrected my exhaust smell in the cab. The EP tube was just spinning when they tested it. You can't just tighten it, they need to order replacement parts.

Wink

Fix is easy, just crawl under your cool truck, tighten up the jam nut, fumes cured! If you cannot tighten it, the TSB should take care of it, assuming you can convince your dealer to even look at this issue.

good luck
