Cheap Fix? Hopefully?

Hey ya'll
I have a 97 F150 with the 5.4L with a little exhaust problem. I bought the truck last summer from a kid, like i have any room to talk I'm only 19, but anyways, this kid took a saw to the exhaust and must have gotten the blade pinched or something because sometime after driving the truck the exhaust became very loud. I got underneath the truck and started to look for the cause of the loudness of my exhaust, well i found it. The EGR tube had a clean cut right behind the bracket that the manifold and EGR tube bolt to. My question is, can I pull the, rest, of my exhaust and weld the broke portion of the EGR tube back together? And if you have any tips on what kind of weld i should use that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ya'll

Not sure what kind of material that tubing is made out of I would suspect stainless steel.
I'm sure it could be welded up again....but with the tubing inherent thin wall and lots of heat and cooling cycles and a fair amount of time since new, welding is going to be very dicey thing...maybe tig welding would be better, or brazing. definitely not arc welding.

Time wise and money too, perhaps it probably would be wiser to go to a salvage yard and just replace the "sawed components". Shucks, it might not be that expensive to get new? IDK

+1 to what enriched says. Get a quote from a exhaust shop first. It might not actually be that bad.

I went and talked a really good friend of mine that owns an exhaust shop and he said that it was going to be any where from $800-$1200 depending on what he can salvage. I was just kind of curious as too whether or not it would be easier to take it all down and weld it up, or just replace it. because I don't want to weld it and then a week later have to do it all over again. But thanks guys. I appreciate all the info, and help.

I would take it apart, and find a dual compression fitting (brass fitting for copper water lines) that fits the tube, then tap the EGR to size and hook it back up. Then have your exhaust fixed right. Mopars were bad for burning this line out and that was my fix when working in the Chrysler garage.
