that I don't know. It just seems like your problems are to wide for sensors and more likely to be something that all your problems are linked too
You and I are on the same track...simply too many "little items" - The cluster harness makes a lot of sense. I also have some cluster lights that work occasionally... I will check the cluster harness with crossed fingers and prayers in my heart.
Thank you for your consideration (I will keep you posted...in case I discover something.
I have a similar situation with my cluster, speedometer needle drops to the bottom of which ever side it is on when it stops functioning. The odometer display blanks out and when it returns, mileage has been lost; meaning the total displayed is less than before it blanked out. Sometimes the "OD" light blinks, but no code is set or stored.
I have been told, by the dealership, that the PSOM could be the culprit. The cluster needs to be sent in for correct/replacement/magic to be done. There is a code on the cluster that is needed by the repair shop. Replacing with a new cluster (no longer available) is not an option. Using a junkyard cluster may not work perfectly, if it works at all, due to some type of calibration (that's why the cluster code is needed) miscommunication.

After Moose Machine mentioned the "cluster harness" and the actions of my cluster, speedo, engine light etc. When I got in my Sports Trac this morning, started the engine and the engine light stayed on, tack didn't move, odometer only had dashes, I finger tapped the cluster at the speedo area and everything came on normal.
It happened three more times today out of 8-10 starts, each time a tap resolved the issue.
This is not THE SOLUTION, but I will investigate "repairs to the cluster" or lok closely for poor ground or conection of some meaning cause and effect conclusion.
I think you nailed it with "harness". When the engine light, speedo, tack etc. doesn't work, I knuckle tap the cluster and everything comes to life. the other thing is that when speedo didn't work and the tripometer also didn't work, the vehicle odometer still registered the miles travelled. Interesting heh?
Thank you for suggesting harness. I can now add loose something in the cluster.
