I'm posting this for my neighbor who has a F250 thats 8 years old. He has replaced many parts, engine from what I know but now when he starts the truck it starts fine but as soon as he starts the truck, the brakes lock up. He can't move it. He hasn't had the chance to move it because the brakes lock as soon as the truck starts. It starts fine and idles fine but can't move because the brakes are locked. Anybody have any ideas? Tomorrow the tow trruck will haul it to the ford dealership so they can look at it and run the diagnosis computer on it.
Just a guess at this point but I would say that the hydroboost
is the problem.
Can he move it with the engine turned off?
I am going to post so Power steering and hydroboost info for you to read.
The brakes on the F-series Diesel trucks gets there power from the steering pump.
The problem is going to be in that system.
Also if he tries to move it with the engine off and it won't move. Have him
pump the brakes 3~4 times to discharge the accumulator and then see if
it will roll. If it does then time to think about replacing the hydroboost unit.
It's not that hard of a job.
One last though. Have him try to pull up on the brake peddle with the engine starting
just to see if it is sinking down when the engine starts.
I will also do some looking to see if I can find the Hydroboost testing PDF
for you to read.
Just a guess at this point but I would say that the hydroboost
is the problem.
Sean
great info, Sean. Just what I was looking for. Thinking that maybe my PSP is bad, or a hose is leaking, and causing my steering and brakes to lose power.
You know all you need to do is ask for the PDF
if you find something you need info on. Might
take a little time right now that Computer is on
the floor and going under the knife. It had a little
heat issue and keeps shutting down. Too bad a coolant
flush won't help it. But I think it's the CPU fan that bit it.
Just need to get "A round tuit"
