Hey all, I have notice a few times recently that my steering acts funny (like its binding) when correcting a turn mostly and it seems to come out of it on its own and will go long periods of time and not do it again or sometimes it will do it multiple times. The fluid is full and looks to be in good condition although I have never changed it and it doesn't have a filter on it that I'm aware of. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start diagnosing this issue? Thanks in advance.
Just went through similar symptoms. This was my situation. First the steering wheel started "juddering" (jerking and shuddering) and then the brakes started pulsing like hyper ABS engagement. (on my truck, the steering and brakes share the same pump). Fluid level seemed OK and I could not see any leaks underneath.
Eventually the steering and brake symptoms became much worse (significant steering wheel juddering and brakes having to be engaged almost to the floor). At that point I did notice some leak spots underneath my truck ... but not much mind you.
Turned out to be a ruptured brake line ... the pump was fine. Replaced all four lines at the same time as I believe when one goes ... the others aren't too far behind. That fixed the problem.
For you, it may be an early warning signal of the same thing happening. Hope this helps. ~ Bugjr ~
I have had the same problem been working on mine for two weeks now. I was driving down the road with no prior problems came upon a major four way stop and had no brakes no steering nothing at all without any prior symptoms. I blew through the red light good thing it was 4:00 A.M. and no traffic was out yet. I replaced the pump no change. I changed the hydroboost and as I was about to take it for a test drive (after bleeding brakes and the power steering in the suggested method as there is no good way to do it.) I lost all brake pedal looked underneath my truck and there was a brake pad on the ground! never have I seen that happen. I replaced rotors (first dually and it was a job as those of you that have done it know) and pads rebled back brakes. Now I have better brakes than when I bought the truck a year ago but steering is still almost impossible. I am at wits end on what to do next very dissappointed and frustrated! Only second Ford I have owned but love my truck anybody have a suggestion?
Thanks for the replies guys......at this point I guess I'm at the wait and see stage, hopefully I will find the problem BEFORE it gets to the no brake stage. However, at this time I just don't have enough of an issue to make any kind of an accurate diagnoses and I just don't want to start throwing parts at it. I''ll pay heed to what you have told me and wait until it presents itself in a different manner than it has so far. Thanks again and I hope you get your problems worked out, If my craps the bed first I'll let you know what I find.
