Brake diagnosis help request...

I'm a fireman. Went in to work Sat morning no problem.... Truck sat in lot for 24 hours. Leaving the station this morning brake pedal was soft and almost didn't stop truck before entering road from station. Checked brake fluid and vacuum pump, full and functioning...

What else do I need to check? There were no warnings of this...

Truck is an 04 250 SD 6.0 Diesel 78K miles

The hydraboost system gets it's power assist from the power steering pump. Check for level, fluid condition and leaks in that area also.

vacuum pump? that isn't part of the brake system. any leaks at any of the wheels?

Maybe he is thinking of the vaccum pump brakes for the late 90s 7.3??
