My new fire truck has a really bad water pump. Our only auto parts store is napa and they dont list it for the f600. They do see one for a pickup, but they list 2, one of which has a 5/8 shaft and another with a 3/4" shaft, but one is unavailable. Anybody have a source for this thing. If it's the one they can get it's only 41.00 with a 15.00 core charge. Same pump for pickup and f600?
The 5/8" shaft is the car version - The pulley is shorter also. The 3/4" is for the F100 truck. I am not sure if the 600 is different, I suspect it is the same as the F100.
If you have the 292MD, it is the same as the one in the pickup. The 292MD has the 2 barrel carburator. The 292HD has the 4 barrel and is governed - I do not know if it used the same water pump.
Thanks for the help guys. It has a big huge carb, which I assume is a 4 barrel. The truck came from very steep country along the Columbia River Gorge, and has a note on the dash that says it weighs 7.5 tons loaded. If I was chasing a fire in it (or it was chasing me) I'd want the 4 barrel. Number Dummy where are you?
Gary - here's the water pump 8501 page from the 57-63 Catalog. Looks to me like yours is the B6C 8501-B, but DO NOT take that as fact. Might need a pm to Bill/ND to get the straight answer. Stu
Thanks again. I don't understand the Governor. We pay a lot of business taxes to him every month. Why is he in my truck? Seriously, why would you want a fire truck to go slower? Or is it governing the revs so some newbie fireman(or woman) doesn't over-rev the thing?
I think over reving was the reason, trying to make the engine hold together longer. However, I have heard about speed govenors to keep down insurance cost.

And isn't it a little more than ironic that a fire truck would have a bad water pump?
Maybe I could use that huge crankshaft driven one on the front bumper. I guess I'd only have to open it just a crack! Got a heck of an expansion tank in the back as well! Tough getting to any of the trucks right now, Doing double work in the woodshop and mill this week as I will be in New England all next week visiting my aging mom. I wonder how far she is from Chuck's Trucks ?
I ordered the pickup one from napa before I left. Home today and I saw that it was a bit diferent than the one on there. Decided to try it because it looked like it would fit as the gasket matched up. There is no provision for a fan on the napa one, but I have the luxury of dual thermostat controled electric fans already mounted as auxillaries by the fire dept. They should suffice while I decide what to do with this thing. But now I find the flange for the pulley is about 1/4" longer on this one and so the pulleys, which are quite close, don't align. This took me back to square one and thinking I'd look for the proper one. Is this a needle in a haystack? Where do I begin to look, or should I send the original out for a rebuild somewhere? Another note is the shaft on the original is 5/8" and the pickup one I ordered is 3/4". Seems backwards. Both fit the pulley, which has 4 bolts and a 3/4" pilot hole. One option is a pulley with more offset, or more likely in my case, cut the pulley at it's hub and lengthen it with a pipe sleeve on the outside. I know, I know.... I'll put my eye out. here's some pics of the one I need. Thanks, GB
Yes I thought of that... But I would have to come up with a press and such and we have had a big surge in business this spring, so it looks like I'm sending it to an outfit called flying dutchman water pumps in Oregon for a rebuild. 125.00. It's nice to be busy at work again after the long recession, but I miss my personal episodes of McGuyver out in the shop.

Glad you are busy. All my contractor buddies on this side of the country have been very slow so far with the hard winter we came thru. Folks will more than likely want to have stuff done when it starts to cool off and they remember that winer is coming.
