Set plug gap based on engine age/type or ignition system?
I had a quick question about the gap on spark plugs.
I have an 81 F-150 DSII ignition
it however has the engine block which is a 1971 based on casting #.
So do I set my plug gap to the recommended gap for the 81 302 DSII which I recall being around .44 ish or to the engine age which is around .35 for a 71 302. It was set to .35 when I first got the truck and hadn't figured out it was an older engine transplanted in there.
I set it to the ignition system seemed like a good bet seeing as it is the end point of the ignition system.
Set it to whichever ignition system you are using. If you're using DS II, set it at the recommended .042"-.044" gap. The 1971 .035" rating is for points and condenser ignition systems.
