2012 f250 SC xl 6.2 - Is it normal to hear a single clunk sound on occasion when accelerating from a stop sign? Doesn't happen all the time mind you and I don't ever remember hearing it in the past.
Now just today, while backing up my driveway, as soon as I started the reverse motion, I heard the same clunk. Sounds like metal to metal and comes from the rear of the truck.
Only 7000 miles on her and I treat her like a baby...anything I should be concerned with?
I would get it checked out, it could be a bad u-joint or maybe the slip yoke on the back of the transmission might be sticking. Worse case something could be wrong inside the differential. Your still under warranty so it won't cost you anything to get it looked at.

Its called axle wind up. My 14 was in for that same issue, they just grease the slip joint on the driveshaft since they act up when they get dry. All 2 piece driveshaft trucks do it because the center support is mounted to the frame the little bump will always be there, not as severe but you will feel it from time to time.

What he said, Axle wrap...my nissan did it for 120,000 + miles. I've felt it in other brands also. Just like he said, as the axle twist slightly the slip joint moves in and out, when it doesn't do this smoothly...you get the little bump as the friction is released.
