-Getting closer to the swap......IS there ad adaptor to go from the '99 style plugs to the '08 Up style??
Anymore feedback on the aftermarket mirrors as far as quality, fit and rattles/vibrations.......anything good or bad??
I'm going to use my present window lock switch (crew cab) to operate the heated function since I have no reason to lock the windows in any set position.......that will just be our little secret though......
I have heard of adapter plugs but would only help with the three wires. I just cut the plugs from both and hard wired the mirrors. Put the mirror heat on a toggle, and just tapped the running lights and turnsignals for the rest. Speaking from personel experience I would not go aftermarket. First mirrors I bought were aftermarkets, after having two OEM sets now I wouldn't go back. The mirrors always shook going down the road with my aftermarkets. Might not annoy you but it did me. Got my 2012 mirrors for $275 so if you can get a good deal as ed the parts guy always said "OEM BABY"
There is a nice write up somewhere where the person used a 1994 Rear Window Defroster Switch for an Explorer. He did a very clean install. The switch is a timed switch. Once activated I think it deactivates in 10 minutes. Has an Amber LED in the toggle indicating activation.
As for the wiring, I would get some quality 8 Pin Wire Connectors and match the remainder up with the factory diagram in a pig tail. You could always remove it and plug the original harnesses back if for some reason you chose to.
As for the Window Lock Switch, I believe that is nothing more and a pendant that lifts a copper connector breaking power to the field feed circuit????
I have to disagree about the aftermarket mirrors. The mirrors from 1a are great every bit as good as OEM. If I had to make one "complaint" about them I don't think the heater is quite as good as OEM. It still works very well but in the winter, in heavy snow storms when the wind is blowing just right a little snow clings to the bottom edge of the top mirror.
I would suggest finding some take-offs if at all possible. I got a set of OEM 2011 heated mirrors with power telescoping and power folding for only $450. They came off a F450/F550 which only had about 100 miles on it... virtually brand new units as far as I'm concerned. That particular seller has no more at the current time, but if you scour eBay on a regular basis, you can sometimes find a similar deal.
As to the OP's original question, I also found a parted '05-'07 truck which had the heated mirrors and purchased the door wiring harness for a few dollars just to get the connectors. If you don't have/purchase mirrors with the power fold/telescoping function, this approach will provide stock connectors to fit your needs. In my case, I have to do additional wiring work to address the power telescoping/fold operation anyway, so the '05-'07 harness still addresses most of what I need to accomplish.
... OEM 2011 heated mirrors with power telescoping and power folding for only $450 ...
What a deal. Every time I see these, it's only on ebay and they get darn close to OEM prices pretty quickly. Where did you find them?
The question - and hence justifying an old thread - can the power fold mirrors be taken apart and repaired? I do see many of these on ebay with cracked cases / broken glass, etc. for a reasonable price. I have the '08 up mirrors now, but not power folding. I really only want it for the passenger side, I can reach my side. Just wondering if it's possible to fix them. Anyone try it?
